I use cetirizine which is an OTC allergy med. It lasts for 12 hours and usually takes care of my cat allergies if I take it prior to being near cats. I would also keep some benedryl cream on hand for hives, and have some benedryl for at night just incase. I have pretty severe cat allergies (they leave paw prints in hives on me plus the stuffy nose and watery/goopy eyes) and I can be around them as long as I medicate myself properly.

@Eckle: claritin, allegra, allegra-D or zyterc all come in day formulas.

Yeah allergy shots and treatment take time for you to build immunity. Im allergic to dogs and I have 4! So I totally feel your pain.

@LTD418:  I’d say as long as I take it half an hour before I’m good.
