I just tried this dress on today.  Found at Mon Amie Bridal Salon in Costa Mesa, CA.  It is gorgeous in person, much prettier than in the pictures online.  The back is splendidly dramatic.  The cut is extremely flattering, at least on my body type.  I am strongly considering it for my wedding gown.

I am also very much in love with this dress but find it hard to find a shop that sells it. AstronautBarbie, what kind of body type do you have? How tall are you? Because of the back it is impossible to wear a bra, my breasts aren’t that big, is there a lot of ‘room’ in that area?

Thank you so much for your reply!

bwemerman:  I am almost 5’6″ with an hourglass shape.  I am fairly busty for my frame, but I plan to wear one of those Victoria’s Secret backless stick on bras.  If you haven’t seen or tried them before, they are like a normal strapless bra in the front, but they have clear plastic sides and no back.  You use special two-sided adhesive strips to put the bra on.  I used one for my sister’s wedding when I was a bridesmaid and was pleasantly surprised by the level of support I got from it.  If you try one, plan to put it on right before you put on your dress so you don’t tax it while you don’t need it.  I’m not sure how long the adhesive lasts, but it did a great job through a ceremony and reception at my sister’s wedding.

I have not yet been measured for my dress and since the sample was a size or 2 too large, I can’t comment much with regards to proportions.  I will say you want the dress to be tight at the waist.  As the dress has no back, the fit at the waist is largely what holds the dress up.

The Madison James collection is new, so a lot of bridal salons don’t have the samples in house yet.  Try calling again at the beginning of September if they say they don’t have the collection.  Good luck!

AstronautBarbie:  Thanks a lot for your reply! I don;t know these bra’s but will definately check them out! One small question, can you tell me a little bit more about the fabric? on the ‘studio’ photos the fabric looks much heavier than on the ‘outside’ pictures, where the dress looks more light, if you understand what I mean. Is there any support in the mid section, like stiffeners or is it just fabric?

And did you try on the ivory or white dress? The white one looks beautiful but I’m affraid it would look cheap.

Thanks a lot!

The fabric is more like the studio photos.  It’s actually shinier in person and it’s about the weight you would expect for satin.  I tried ivory, which is a very white ivory, not like some designers’ ivories that are almost buttercream.  Unless you put the ivory MJ dress against a diamond white, I don’t think you would call it anything but white.

They had the dress clipped very tight.  I don’t remember how the dress was structured, but it was definitely staying up on it’s own from the waist.  I have a policy of not posting pictures of my dress until after my wedding, but if you are in love with this dress and want to see what it looks like on a real bride, I could PM pictures we took at the salon.

What you can’t see from pictures of this dress are how sparkly the belts are in person and that the dress’s buttons in the back alternate between satin buttons and crystal buttons.

Hi guys, I’m having dress regret and may be looking for a new dress. I saw this dress online – I love it! Would any of you ladies who bought it (or tried it on) be willing to share photos with me?

Thanks!
