Hello! I’m a new member of this site and I need help regarding my wedding dress. It’s an Allure Satin Gown, style number 9003. I will be ordering it this weekend (November 2, 2013). The problem is that it’s strapless, and we will be having a church wedding and it’s usually (unspokenly) required for shoulders to be covered. It’s also a sweet-heart neckline (which I love) yet with my bust size (DD/E) it’s hard to keep it modest, and I really do value modesty – especially in the neckline part. Anyways, what many of the brides do is just have something on top, usually a lace thing but I can’t do lace with satin. Anyways, I was wondering if you guys have any ideas for me?
What can go over a satin dress, that will also cover the chest part of the dress just for the church part at least (so it will be removable).
Thank you! 🙂 God bless each all of your journeys! I am so excited.

@Starlitglory: So I guess it depends on your church for that rule to really apply. I also had an Allure strapless satin gown and I got married in church with it strapless (because I knew it’d be hot up there). But later, I did put on a lace bolero (who say’s lace and satin don’t mix). I got a ton of compliments on the lace bolero with my dress. Also, for outside pictures, it was cold, I wore an angora sweater. But if you really don’t want a lace bolero, there are satin bolero options.

I have no issue with mixing satin and lace, but I think it would be too much with your particular dress. I think a satin bolero would be nice, but that won’t cover your chest. If you’re in the southern hemisphere (i.e., it will be cold duirng your wedding), I think a faux fur capelet would look nice, and that would cover your shoulders and chest. For warm weather…maybe an organza capelet?

I do not have an issue with lace and satin but your lovely gown is a bit too sparkly for lace. Here are a couple of ideas. There are satin boleros. Check with your consultant and consider a bridesmaids bolero. Almost all brands carry them in white and ivory. Or get a bolero which matches your fiance’s tie and use a second color for bridesmaids and groomsmen. Just a thought. Did I mention that your dress is gorgeous?
