We're getting married on our undergraduate alma mater's campus! But, our colors were blue and gold and we weren't feeln' that. We have a historic building on campus and we arranged for tours of the building for our wedding guests all morning (which was only about $150!) We considered making a "photo booth" with a backdrop of all our university's gear stuck to it (think tshirts, pompoms, vintage flags, mascot stuff, etc...) and giving out guests props the were school colors and revelant....
I am a HUGE, loyal, fan of my alma mater but my fiance' graduated from a different school (we met my senior year). We did get our DJ to play my fight song and our church just happened to be white with green doors/shutters...my school colors :)
I love the idea of getting a cake in the shape of his school mascot and mine for our anniversary someday...or maybe even a family BBQ with our families this summer.
Ahh! Playing the fight song is SUCH a good idea...FI will DIE over that! Smart! Thanks for the idea :)
@VirginiaMarie:I love the idea of getting married up on campus. We definitely toyed around with that idea for awhile, but unfortunately it just didn't work for us. I'm thinking maybe we'll head up there for a TTD someday...but who knows!
we are getting married on my alma mater's chapel i LOVE it even our colors are a nod to that.
as for things to do - check out my friend's wedding video - they hired the Hokie bird to come to the reception! :P GOOOO HOKIES !!!!
@spaganya: That is so fun! Was your friend's wedding held on/near campus as well?
We are getting married at the university chapel at the university where we attended graduate school together. =)
nope well not far - only an hour or so, but it was richmond so its still the same state :)
We both went to the same university and I'm now faculty there, so we'll be having our reception at the Faculty Club on campus. We're not involving our school's colors because they would completely clash with the decor of the club!
FI and I are both graduates of THE Ohio State University, though he graduated before I started.
We are giving out "A pair of buckeyes from a pair of Buckeyes" (school mascot rendered in chocolate and peanutbutter form") for our favors. We also are playing one of the school's unofficial songs (Hang on Sloopy) and dedicating it to our OSU friends.
Other than that, we're 27 and 34 now and live in California, so we didn't want to go too heavy on it.
About a year out of college, one of my FI's fraternity brothers got married. The couple met at school (Duke) just like my FI and I did.
They had the wedding at the hotel across the street from campus and had all sorts of cute Duke touches. Her garter was Duke blue and had the Duke logo on it. All the tables were named after places at Duke instead of table numbers, and they had the bridal party (all duke alumni) come in to the Duke Fight Song.
It was all very cute.
My FI and I attended different colleges, but we came up with a compromise by using the main colors of both schools...dark red for mine, and dark purple for his. It works out because I love the dark jewel tones bc it gives off the romantic, lush look I was going for!
I was a member of the marching band in college...if all works out, I'm surprising my FI with a performance from them =)
We used our alma mater (University of Oklahoma) colors as our wedding colors, but the crimson and cream just happens to be my favorite colors as well.
A lot of my friends have done groom's cakes themed with the school though.

Is anyone involving their university as inspiration for their wedding at all?
FI and I met at Syracuse University, so we are going heavy on the orange colors, with pops of blue thrown in. I also want to get him a groom's cake with the Syracuse mascot. I've seen friends of friends who had the mascot and the marching band show up to the reception! I would love to make something like this happen as a surprise for him, but we aren't getting married upstate, and the couple that DID get married was heavily involved in the marching band. I don't have those kind of connections...
Is anybody else doing something like this?
