My husband and I decided to make the switch to almond milk rather than regular cow’s milk. I love the nutritional beneifits and I’ve been looking to avoid foods with tons of hormones and antibiotics. It’s also convenient because we usually drink two different milks (super skim and 2%). The shelf life is also longer.
However after my first try I don’t LOVE the taste. I actually added reese’s puffs to my Special K cereal to cover it up.

I love almond milk IN stuff, but hate it alone. It’s too sweet, so I tried the unsweetened kind and STILL hate it by itself. I also don’t particularly like almonds, so that might be my issue. That said, I use it in hot chocolate, cereal, oatmeal, etc… I just can’t stand to drink a glass of it plain.

@DaneLady: I have exactly the same feelings!
It’s not so great alone, but in other things where the flavor can be masked a bit, it’s pretty awesome!

I really really hate the unsweetened. But I love the vanilla sweetned almond milk.

Have you tried other similar alternatives like soy milk or rice milk?
Personally I like almond milk though, I have a sweet tooth LoL

I’m allergic to cow’s milk so I have tried all of the alternatives and Almond milk has to be my favorite to have with cereal. I can’t drink it alone though. But it’s really the only thing I use it for. I use rice milk for baking because it doesn’t add any flavor at all.

@headoverhighheels: just FYI, all dairy milk is tested rigorously and is antibiotic-free on the shelf.
I won’t ever drink almond or soy, but if I were forced to choose, I’d pick almond because of the high hormone levels (estrogen) in soy.

@elysion: I haven’t! Almond sounded the most appealing for my first try haha 🙂

I get the Lite Vanilla Soy Milk and it is really good in cereal. I love it!

I use the sweetened vanilla in my coffee and occasionally in cereal, but I usually use it with unsweetened cereal so that I am not eating too much sugar in the morning. I don’t tend to drink glasses of milk though, so it doesn’t bother me too much.

Try Vanilla Almond Milk, I love it in my Protein shakes and cereal, my hubbie loves it to he has it every morning in his cereal.

Bc I’m lactose intolerant I was drinking soy milk for the longest until I found out how much estrogen was in soy milk. Then I switched to almond milk. I like it but it was too sweet. I couldn’t drink it by itself and some cereals were a definite no-no with it. Eventually I just switched to lactaid milk.

Unsweetened vanilla almond milk with a packet of Equal is perfect for me.

All brands don’t have the same flavor, so try a couple of varieties before you write it off forever. We switched to Almond and I love it. We usually get Almond Breeze or Silk PureAlmond in the original flavor (which is lightly sweetened, though it has less sugar than milk!). It substitutes beautifully for most baking recipes as well.

I like the Almond Breeze unsweetened vanilla almond milk. The first few times I tried it, I wasn’t a fan, but now I actually like the taste. I drink it by itself and use it in smoothies. It does have a strong almond flavor, so I don’t use it in my coffee.
I’m trying to limit carbs so I rarely drink dairy milk or eat cereal.
