I am taking FI's last name which will mean changinf from an F to a T and moving significantly down the alphabet. Is anyone else disapointed to lose their spot in alphabetical order? I know it'S aminor thing but I can't help but remember how great it was in school to be an F, never first but always within the first 1/4 of the class. Especially in large groups of people when alphabetical order seemed to be the default form of organization I never had to wait long. My cousin is a W and I remember sitting through his graduation where he was second to last to get his diploma and T is not far from W.

Has anyone else thought about this? Anyone excited to move up or down in alpha order?

YES! I'm going from C to W!!! Thats a loss of 20 spots!! I'm very disapointed. I liked being close to the start of the roll call at school. But my FI said this when I told him:

"Don't worry sweetie, being a W means that when you drop the kids off at school you will have an extra minute to get them there! That means you can sleep in 1 extra minute a day, so 5 minutes a week, that will add up quickly honey!"

    He is such a doofus.

I'm going from B to J so I'm pretty good. I hated being B because I was almost always sitting in the front of the class. I'm a little OCD and I hate people sitting behind me...It wasn't good

I went from a B to a S so I understand!  I was always in the first row in classrooms!

Oh, it kills me. I went from a B to an L and miss being up front in the alphabet!

I'm going from J to B. Middle to right up front! lol. I always loved being in the middle because no matter which way up the alphabet the teacher went, I was always halfway through, never first or last.

No because I am only moving down four spaces. However, I am going from a very uncommon last name to a very common last name.

Sorry ladies, I'm in the opposite camp: I went from Z to C and I'm thrilled!

I'm going to from D to O, for me in HS it was always a craps shoot to see if I was going to be at the end of a row or at the front of the row. It always depended how many A's, B's and C's there were! I'm kind of excited to have a last name that starts with a vowel, and I actually think my first name goes better with my future last name than my current last name (sorry mom and dad)!

L to R, not much, but I liked my spot in the middle, and I always thought of R as the beginning of the end.

We had the same last initial, so no changes for me. I wouldn't have minded moving up a bit from P, but it was not to be ... ha ha

This thread is funny! I'm not having much of a change; I'm only moving one letter.

I guess it will matter more for our kids, but I'm going from W to M... right in the middle.  I actually like my married name better with my title, so win win for me!  Laughing

    This thread is hilarious!

I don't remember the last time I was put in alphabetical order and so I didn't think twice about it! But I am going from R to M (still fairly central)!

haha I've totally thought about this!  I'm an R, he's a B.  Before we started dating (in the 'courting' stage) I insisted that when I get married there must be a significant improvement in alpha order... he took that as his cue to ask me out soon after :)

I'm going from S to B and it makes me very happy. :) I'm also going from a name no one could ever pronounce to one of the easiest names on the planet. Can't wait!

I'm not making a big jump in the Alpha order.  Changing from a K to a T, but it's a noticable shift when it comes to my car tags.  I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but here we renew in months based on last name.  Currently K's renew in July while H's are in June.  When I change my name I'll renew in November.  When I expressed my excitement about this change to FI last night he said, but that's right around Christmas.  Good point.  Grrrr.
