Haha I’m gonna love this thread! The most expensive home for sale in my city is only $595k (5,000 sqft, with movie theater and other ridiculous luxuries) but let me go find some million dollar homes in the richer cities next to mine… 🙂

This is a house right in my neighbourhood.  Just under 3000 sq ft.  0.25 acres, 4 bed, 4 bath.  I assumed it would back onto the lake, but it doesn’t.  It is on a cul-de-sac though.

$700k + are considered luxury homes.  There are condos that go for that much too though!

Depending on the age of the house average 5 bedroom 3.5 bathroom on an acre I would think.

Hmmm not too sure.  A 3 bed, 2 bath house down the street was 1.5 million… So a 2 bedroom house is my guess?  I live in West Los Angeles.  Sooo yeah, a million doesn’t buy much!

Edit: We rent a 1 bedroom apartment for about $1200/month and that’s CHEAP for this area.  It’s subsidized since we live in university owned apartments.

5,585 sq ft, 4 bed, 5 bath, lakefront property. In my opinion, it’s quite hideous on the inside. $999,900.

@ImmaBee:  I love that house.  Reminds me of the houses in movies where “average” people supposedly live!

Here is one from my area that will be built to suit.  Base price is $1,049,000

4330 SF, 5BR, 3 full, 2 half baths on 2.9 acres.   This is a really lovely street close to top notch schools and it abuts a land trust.  FI and I have looked to move to this neighborhood after the wedding, but our budget is only about 2/3 of this, so I won’t be getting this dream home!   Ah, it’s nice to dream though, huh?    Wink

@ImmaBee:  Ooh, I love this thread!  Paradise is a bit expensive.  Here was my favorite million dollar home.  The inside is soo nice looking!

The inside:

It’s $995,000, 4 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, and 2,118 sq ft.  Also, it only has .25 acre of land.

For a million dollars, you think you could get at least 2 full baths!

5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, 8.62 acres, in ground pool, lake, and horse stalls.

Or this one. 4 bedroom, 4 bath.

Which I want, simply because of the library. Omg.

All of these pictures are from the SAME HOUSE! I lost track of how many living room-ish rooms there are. But it is 7,000sqft, 6 bed, 5.5 bath, on over 2 acres. It’s $1.05M

For the record… not all the homes in Canada are super expensive… like everywhere else it depends on location, location, location.

Just our Major Cities are closing in on unattainable (Toronto & Vancouver leading the pack on EXPENSIVE) or if one wants to live someplace that has AMAZING Geography !!

Personally if I had a Million Dollars (or more) It would be to buy a house in the 1000 Islands.  One of the most GORGEOUS places in all of Ontario.

Then it isn’t so much about “the house” as it is about the location… I’d have NO PROBLEM waking up and staring at that scenery morning, noon & night.

Lol, it even looks wonderful when covered in a blanket of snow !!
