I’m just wondering what you’ve got planned for your first married valentine’s day or what did you do on your first married valentine’s day? We’re not doing anything too special–trying a restaurant we’ve been meaning to try and picking up dessert to have at home–but I’m kinda feeling bad that I don’t have some elaborate “our first valentine’s day as husband and wife” crap planned but…ugh. I just don’t care that much about Valentine’s day! I feel kinda bad that I’ve let a couple holiday’s slip past for which I didn’t do something memorable to commemorate our “first” (no “our first christmas” ornament or other gift/bauble/whatever. We just kinda did what we normally do but definitely shared a few special moments of “merry christmas/happy thanksgiving to my husband/wife”. I feel like such an under acheiver haha!

@MrsDrRose612: Don’t feel like an under achiever! Haha, DH asked me if he should do something special for the 14th. I looked at him like he had grown a second head.
“Um, we never do anything special for Valentine’s day ever, so why now?” He just thought he should ask. Ha! I had planned on cooking dinner, but it’s casserole, so nothing fancy at all. We might get a cupcake from the bakery, which isn’t as special as it sounds since I’ve been known to frequent there when I’m super busy, or stressed, or excited, or pretty much whenever I feel like I’ve been good enough to warrant sugar.

Um, is it bad that I can’t remember what we did for our first married Valentine’s Day?

We aren’t doing anything ON Vday, I just picked up a card for him (first ‘husband’ valentines day card!) and some chocolates. But we’ve got a reservations for a fancy italian restaurant on Saturday. We’ve never made a big deal out of Vday before either.

We probably did the same thing we’ll do tomorrow– grab some take out (Chinese), a bottle of wine (plum wine), and watch a movie at home, snuggling. I always bake, too. This year, I’m making a recipe from another Bee thread… chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes. The recipe sounded amazing, and I made the cookie dough last night. Heavenly!! I got little heart sprinkles, too.
We exchange a couple small gifts and Etsy greeting cards, and call it Valentine’s Day. We’ve never been big Valentine people, but we’ll also never pass up an excuse to have a yummy food, wine, and movie night.

We are babysitting his sisters 6 month old! But we will have a date this weekend.
There’s a place here that delivers hot cookies & milk so I’m having a dozen sent to him.

@dlbaqua: I’m sorry, you just derailed the whole thread by saying you live near a place that delivers…warm cookies and milk? That sounds like the most glorious thing ever and I’m insanely jealous. Screw valentine’s day…I’m too astounded by the injustice that there is no such cookie-and-milk delivery place where I live!! 🙂

We ordered a nice meal from a caterer in town and had a nice candlelit dinner for two in our house 🙂 It was not as expensive as going out, and was nice to have just the two of us. Bonus that the dinner was prepared and ready to go, and all we had to do was serve with a glass of wine and enjoy!
Just enjoy the time together and no pressure… it’s a silly day anyway 😉 (in my opinion!) 🙂 🙂

We decided a while ago that we’re going to stay in and just relax for vday. Now I’m even more glad we are since I’m pregnant. It’ll probably be a pretty low-key night which I actually appreciate because I don’t have to dress up or put makeup on and can go to bed early. Yay! I might even take a bath tonight. Hehe

Don’t feel like an under achiever! My husband works tonight for our first Valentines day so we aren’t doing anything!

I thought we were just doing a simple dinner out at a local place that’s not particularly fancy, and I’d picked out a card. I’m not big on Hallmark holidays, and we’ve never done much more than dinner and a card. But yesterday, after DH picked me up from class, he said he couldn’t wait and had to give me Valentine’s stuff now. He made a childlike booklet type card “from the dog,” with constuction paper shapes, pipe cleaner clouds, and small pom poms glued together to make the dog. He gave me a sweet card, and then gave me a little gift bag that had a dolphin (I love dolphins) and little version of our dog made out of modeling clay that he’d made for me. DH is NOT the creative crafty type, AT ALL, so all of this was a huge surprise. My face hurt from smiling so much! And this morning, I found myself randomly smiling. I really appreciate how he was willing to go outside his comfort zone and try something new. It really is all about the thought and effort.

We are going to a local brewery that is doing a seven-course beer/food pairing dinner. We’ve never gone out for Valentine’s Day before – always made a nice dinner at home – but DH is a big beer guy, so we’re really looking forward to tonight!
