I think the ivory looks much more wedding like, while the black looks more like a producation (ie. theatre/masgic show) and more dramatic.
Depending on the look you're going for and whether you have a day-time/evening wedding and whether it's indoor or outdoor, but IMO the ivory is your best choice (also easier to sell to another bride after!)
Anyone else?
Also, the linens I rented are white. Should I change them for ivory now that I have my dress?
I think ivory for the alter, and white is just fine for the linens. These are things we brides obsess with, but guests don't even notice! Unless it is SUPER easy to change to ivory, I wouldn't worry at all-- it will be beautiful!
So I returned our white guest book for ivory, out white ring bearer pillow for ivory, and changed all linens to ivory. Thanks ladies! I'm feeling MUCH better.
Black is also less flattering in photographs--the ivory will let more light through to you/reflect more light back to you, making it easier to get a good picture.

My dress is ivory. Men will be in black with ivory. Bridesmaids wearing black. Flower girls wearing silver.
We are now doing a huge draped fabric altar. Basically, the fabric will hang to the ground like a giant extra long curtain.
Do we use ivory fabric or black?
It will be somewhat similar to this. (A combination of the two)
