Hi! This is my first post but everyone is so helpful on these boards that I am looking forward to it. 🙂
Dress background: I’m on a tight budget but decided early on that the dress was my second most important aspect after photograhy. I tried on Vera Wang White 351007 (the “ball gown with asymmetrical bodice”) in Champagne and knew that it was perfect for me. I was home for Christmas and tried it on for my mom and it made her cry. But in an effort to save money I’ve been looking for it used to no avail. I do, however, have a chance to get it in ivory for practically half the price of the new one from David’s Bridal, but when I tried that color on I thought it looked great but I didn’t feel special in it. So I’m leaning towards buying the new one, but I’m trying to figure out how much I’ll pay for alterations so I can really make an informed decision.
For those who don’t know the dress:
That’s not the champagne color but it’s the best picture that shows the shape of the dress. And the bow isn’t part of it!
So if anyone has this dress or a similar dress, how much did you pay for alterations? Someone on eBay who said she paid $600 for to alter and bustle this dress and I am panicked about that. I’m only 5′ so I need some serious length alteration, and I’m a little smaller than a size 6 (I think… the 4 was great everywhere except the bust, but I don’t know how accurate the sample size was) so I need the bodice taken in at the waist. And a bustle, which on a giant tulle skirt like this seems like it will be difficult and expensive. If anyone can give me a clue about what kind of bustle will not look ridiculous, that’d be helpful too since one picture I saw had a very strange looking bustle and I don’t know what kind it was. If I bought it used already with a bustle, does anyone know if this would make the alterations MORE difficult/expensive?
And last, before I bite the bullet and buy this new, if anyone HAS this dress in champagne in a 6 or so and wants to sell it to me, you’d forever be my hero. 😀
