So I decided to go with an independent bridal tailor. I just had my first fitting, and I’m so nervous! What if she wrecks my dress?! I mean, I KNOW she’s not going to, but I can’t help being all freaked out. She is actually adding to the dress to give me more length and she assured me she can do it in such a way that it will look perfect. She said no one will notice extra lace on the bottom, but they will notice if your dress is too short. I tend to agree with her there. I’m just really nervous that its going to come out terrible and my dress will be ruined. I went independent bc I’m so done with David’s bridal after all of the bullshit they have put me through, but I’m almost more nervous now bc she doesn’t have a giant corporation behind her. Personality wise she was great, and very professional, but I’m just freaking out and second guessing myself, maybe I should have just let the dress be a little short?! Agghh

If she’s independent and making a living off of being a seamstress, chances are she’s good at what she does.

It will be totally fine! Post pics of you in the dress after alterations:)

Well, even if she does screw up, you still have plenty of time to get it fixed. I wouldn’t worry about her screwing up tho. I bet it will look great!

It’ll be fine. She does this for a living. And I agree that extra lace on the bottom will likely look like it was supposed to be that way!

I agree with PP that if she owns her own business and she is doing independent tailoring, her business is her living and she is good at what she does. I bought my dress from DB too but I refuse to use their alterations services, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!! I am also going to an independent seamstress to add lace straps. 🙂

@Weetzie: did you reserach her and check references first? if so you should be fine

I’m sure it will be fine! She’s a seamstress! Unlike DB seamstresses, who are generally high school/college students or retirees!

I definitely did do my research first. She’s been doing bridal alterations for almost 20 years. I think I’m just being a spaz haha. Thanks guys!
