Oh, here's a pic of my dress (keep in mind that there's no hoop or anything under it and it's not the right size :-) ):

Maybe if we can see a picture of your dress it would be easier to see if it would look good as a sweetheart.
Ignore my previous post. I think that the reason why she isn't sure is that pattern in the middle of the bodice. If she goes down really low, it can take that out but it might be too long. I don't really know for sure how it would look, probably depends on how she does it but if she is as good as everyone says, I'm sure she can work it out!
I will be having the same alteration done to my dress, but I'm imagining a "soft" sweetheart neckline. I guess it's more like tucking the fabric down. I don't think you have anything to worry about. If your seamstress has been in the business that long, I'm sure she's done this type of alteration before, and if she comes highly recommended, she also knows what she's doing. This is all technical stuff though. She might have sounded unsure because she doesn't know how you'll like it once it's done.
Well, it's in her hands now and you'll just have to trust her. No matter what she does, I'm sure you'll be stunning on your wedding day!
I would be concerned if she wasn't recommended and she had little experience. Could you ask her if she's ever done this before? If she hasn't, maybe ask her if you could see any before and after photos of wedding dress alterations.
Hey, our wedding's are a week apart and we both live in Seattle. Well, my wedding will be in Philadelphia though.
Good luck.
Your dress is reeeeally pretty! As for the alterations, I wouldn't worry. Most seamstresses won't try something they aren't sure of. When I asked my seamstress to take in the bodice of my chiffon and satin ruched dress, she said "I don't know, it might not be the best idea."
That made me nervous!! But she did something kind of semi-permanent that she could un-do if I hated it, and I liked it so it was fine!!
I think she was probably less confident in you liking it, rather than her ability to DO it. I wouldn't worry too much!

Hi Bees!
Last Friday I took my dress in to get it altered, and it didn't go exactly as planned, so I need you guys to calm my nerves a little. My dress is strapless, with the neckline going straight accross. I want it altered to a sweetheart neckline, not because I don't like the original, but because when I envision myself walking toward my husband to be, I see myself in a sweetheart (is that stupid?). Anyway, the seamstress said that she would do it, but she didn't seem totally confident in it. I asked her if she thought it would look nice and she said, "I honestly don't know". Once she said that I started to say that maybe I should just bag it, but she said that if that's what I've been imagining for my wedding day, that we should do it. So we're going for it. The only problem is that my final fitting is only 2 days before the wedding, and I'm terrified that I'll see it and hate it.
Do any of you have good or bad alterations stories?
FYI, she was recommended to me very highly from the boutique I bought my dress in, and she's been doing this for 37 years, so I'm trying not to be too worried...
