Hi Bees–A friend/colleague of mine did my alterations for my wedding dress. The dress is simple silk chiffon, and I just needed the straps taken up (spaghetti straps), and the front of the skirt shortened. I’m totally clueless how much money I should offer her. I will ask her what she thinks, but I wanted to have an idea of what is appropriate. I realize we should’ve discussed rates beforehand, but it was pretty casual. Any ideas?

It’s hard to say.
We also have a family friend who does alterations and she is SOOOOOO reasonable. When my sister needed her prom dress taken in, like, 1/2 an inch, the shop wanted to charge her $250. This woman did it for $15.
(and she used to work at a bridal salon and is a professional seamstress with her own business so we know she knows what she’s doing).
I would maybe find out how much a shop would charge and go from there??
Or you could just ask her — and if what she says sounds too low, just send her a gift card in the mail as an extra thank you or something.
