I need some help deciding on whether I should go ahead and get my dress altered. November 2nd will be 6 months to the wedding. I found a lady that I really wanted to alter it. I could tell she knew what she was talking about and she had an eye for things. My problem is in 3 weeks I will be moving 3 hours away. I don’t change much in size. I’ve always been pretty much the same size in the past few years. I am a small girl but I am still trying to lose a little weight on my sides. My brother lives here so when I came back for a fitting I could stay with him but it would be 3 hours away. Most family have told me to go ahead and do it because I don’t really change size but I’m kinda scared to do it this early. What do y’all think would be best?

Alot can change in 6 months – especially if you are actively trying to lose weight/inches. also – you may find someone closer once you move, and if not – you have already said you can stay with your brother. personally i would wait until closer to the wedding before getting alterations done.

weird_bunny: The lady said she needs 2 months to do it. If I decided to have her do it, when should I get it done? I just want to make sure its perfect.

willingham2: I didn’t start my alterations until less than 2 months before the wedding, and my final fitting was 2 weeks before the wedding.
As weird_bunny said, a lot can change in 6 months. And if she needs 2 months to do it, wow… that seems like a long time! I was lucky and went to a local seamstress who I had done business with before, and she would have my stuff done within a couple days for me to try on again.

Kacie209: I know the material of my dress is harder to size down than most. I don’t know if she just stays really busy or what. I may just look around where I live and see if I can find somwhere. It’s just hard because where I am moving my wedding venue is going to be 6 and half hours away and so I want to be able to do as much as I can around where I will be living. Does that make sense?
