So I’m currently in the market for either a replica dress from an overseas dressmaker or to buy a used one. My question lies with the used dresses: at what point would it be too much to alter a dress? Would it be completely stupid to buy a size 10 to alter it down to a 6? Or I guess maybe more accurately speaking, inch-wise, how many inches is too much where I’d be better off buying another dress altogether?
I also happen to favor lace and beading (SURPRISE! I kept on insisting that I didn’t like lace or bling…until I started trying on dresses, haha), so does that throw in another problem into the almighty alterations equation?

@iamsherlocked: Yes, if there is a lot of detail on your dress, alterations get trickier and trickier. Have you seen this thread? I’ll admit I haven’t checked to see if you commented on it, but Creiddylad is a seamstress and answering questions!

@pengoala: Haha, yeah, I posted my question there too shortly after I posted this thread! I hit “submit” and then I was like “WAAaaaait a minute…”
Haven’t seen her answer anything about altering dresses with lace and beading yet, so hopefully I’ll get an answer soon if she’s trucking along on that thread! 🙂
