I am getting married November 8th and I wanted some idea of what brides’ timelines were for alterations. I was thinking of scheduling my first fitting for the last weekend in September. Do ya’ll think that’s an appropriate amount of time out from the wedding to do that? My dress is practically all lace and currently fits me like a glove, save for some alterations that need to be done with the length and the sleeve area (too loose). The train is pretty long too, so I’m thinking of getting that taken off a bit and perhaps doing a bustle. Will a tailor/seamstress usually recommend a date(s) for a 2nd and/or 3rd fitting if needed? Additionally, would it be too early to call now and set up the appointment for the end of September (I feel like it never hurts to be too prepared ). Please let me know your thoughts!

@kerrileigh3: the shop told me how long they needed. my dress came in in july. i was going to go in in August for my first fitting but the girl told me to come in a look at the dress (and the Bees told me to go look at it anyway). The owner said I needed my first fitting then.
my 2nd fitting is next week.
i think i will have 1 or 2 more.

@ajillity81: When is your wedding? I’m assuming it’s pretty close if you’re going for a 2nd fitting soon? I’ve had my dress since June, so I’m just hanging on to it until the fitting (which I elected not to do with the place that I bought it, i.e. David’s Bridal).

@kerrileigh3: my wedding is october 19, 2013.
i would suggest having your first fitting at least 2 months in advance. my first fitting was 3 months out, next week will be about 2 months out.
i think the lady told me i would have 4 fittings. i’m not sure when the 3rd one will be, but the 4th one will be a few days before when i pick up my dress.
i’ve very consistant with my weight. i have not gained or lost any (and wasn’t planning to) for the wedding so it didn’t matter to me when my dress was altered.
you mention you already have your dress so i assume you are taking it to a private seamstress. the timeline may be different for that. my bridal shop is doing my alterations.
