Altering a dress up?

@MrsN14:  It depends on how many seams are in the dress. Each seam can give about 1/2″ max.

I’ve not done this but I’ve always heard it’s much more difficult. The seams do not have a lot of extra fabric. It’s very likely that they would have to add extra panels which might be expensive and the dress might not look the same after.

I probably wouldn’t risk it, since its all lace.

@MrsN14:  If you’d consider adding a corset back that can add some inches.  It’d have to go pretty low to give you additional space in the hips but I imagine it could be done.  That’s a gorgeous dress!

Depending on the fabric it can be quite risky letting out the seams too much because of possible fraying. Also fabrics like satin will of the show holes where it was previously sewn quite distinctly, particularly as the dress has been previously worn and had movement pulling on seams of an extended period. I’m not sure it’s the best idea.
