Gahhhhh the bra drama continues! I am a size 30G (yes, natural, and therefore less-than-perky. I would pay to get rid of these things, actually!). I have found precisely two strapless longline bras online in my size, ordered them both, and neither work with my dress (the sides come up too high to keep the girls “in”). Same probablem with my regular strapless bra. I haven’t talked to my seamstress yet, I plan to in a couple weeks (she’s booked solid thanks to prom right now), so I’m hoping there’s a way she can sew in my regular strapless bra to my dress, or pull the sides of the dress up somehow.
Alternatively, I did order a longline in a 32DDD. The cups fit PERFECTLY. They’re low enough, they’re supportive, and they give enough control to keep the girls mostly in. The band around the bust area fits pretty well, though it could easily go tighter by about half an inch to an inch without causing muffin top (my back is pretty fit). The thing is, my waist is somewhere in the 24-25 inch range- the bra is big in the band by a solid 2-3 inches around my waist, and an inch in the hips.
Does anyone have any experience altering a bra? It seems simple in theory, and I’ve seen it done on regular strapless bras to tighten the band, but I’m not sure in practice how it would work on a longline. There’s only boning in the front, not the back, so I’m wondering if it might be possible to nip the bra in at the waist somehow from the back, and if anyone’s ever done this before.
Ugh, I swear, if I had known what a nightmare finding a bra for a strapless dress would be, I never would’ve bought the stupid thing. This is the source of ALL my dress regret- I love my actual dress, but finding what to wear under it has been an unending exercise in something even worse than bathing suit shopping and has thrashed my body image. Every bridal shop (and all the speciality lingerie shops) in my area actually LAUGHED on the phone when I told them what I needed in what size. One lingerie shop tried to sell me a 34D and tell me it looked awesome when it slid down to my butt. I’m at the end of my rope. I know I can’t be the only girl going through this, and I know I need to talk to my seamstress, but I was wondering if anyone could give any insight? My dress is not real structured on top, just a little boning, and it’s not a corset back and I don’t want to put one in (I don’t like the look, personally).
