Most definitely.  Seamstresses should be able to emphasize or de-emphasize a trumpet/mermaid fit.  I was told it is also not very expensive to do so.

@Chrstinela – I’m actually going to be emphasizing the trumpet sillhouette for my dress 🙂  I haven’t brought it in for the alterations yet, but I discussed it with my seamstress when I was getting my measurements and she said it’s not a problem at all.  I’m pretty sure our requests are a relatively standard alteration.  Since you have the extra fabric it shouldn’t be a problem.
