I had my girls (both were 2 1/2) carry little flower balls. They have a name for them, but I can't remember them at the moment. They just walked down the isle with them, and they were both cute as a button!
@2peas...I think pomanders is the word you are looking for and I agree...those would be perfect.
are pomanders expensive? i tend to think they would cost a whole lot more than a little bouquet...?
pompadors are very sweet and perfect for little girls to carry! they're also called kissing balls.
At least at my florist rose pomaders were inexpensive. Some flowers can run you a little higher, but I was told that roses were the cheapest way to go.
@ismini
Here is a link to make the pomanders out of tissue paper. I think I am going to try this for my sister's wedding to use as aisle decoration.

DIY pomanders are VERY easy to make.
MY FG is having a small bouquet - but she is older (8 at the time of the wedding).
If you like the basket route, you can have the florist make an arrangement in a basket without actually having petals to throw. They would just carry the basket.
I like Mrs. Star's stuffed animal idea, personally!
We have 5 flower girls that can't throw flowers either. So I bought little bouquets at Michael's with my 50% off coupons. And thank goodness because the fake flowers need for one kissing ball would have been around $20... these were $4 each!
i like flower girl wands! They have flowers at the top, and lots of ribbons, so cute. too bad I have no flower girls though, hehe.
Not sure of your theme.... but I attended a wedding where instead of flower girls, she called them something else... some kind of princesses or angels!!
Anyway, the girls wore white, had angel wings on, and carried wands, and had little halos on their head!! It was cute
I like the pomander idea, or they could carry a nosegay (a mini-bouquet). They don't have to toss anything to be flower girls (and actually my FG didn't toss the petals that were in the basket!).
what about silk flower petals? i am not sure if you can throw those or not but they would not leave as much of a mess as real petals.
Maybe it varies, but pomanders from my florist (out of kermit button mums) were more expensive than the bridesmaid bouquets! She said it's very time consuming, and wanted $40 for one for my flowergirl. So we'll be making our the pomander ourselves. You can definitely save money doing it yourself.
We are using flower girl wands. I discovered them on etsy.com The lady who is doing our flowers is making these for us. I love them!
My MOH is the flower girl's mom and she told me she loves carrying around a little purse when they go to the store so we're going to get her a really pretty purse, probably in one of our wedding colors to carry!
Thanks for the name! I think my florist called them the kissing balls. They were relatively inexpensive, mainly b/c she used sweetheart roses in them rather than normal full bloom roses. So they ended up being cheaper than my bouquets!
I am in the same boat - venue won't allow loose petals being thrown. I am planning on making a pomander made of silk flower for my 6 yr old FG. She doesn't need fresh flowers (I also read that the ones with real flowers are soaked with water so it might be heavier for the girl).
How bout teddybears for the little ones and a small bouquet for the 7 year old? :)
Not sure about your wedding stle but I recently went to a wedding where the flower girls each had a helium balloon tied around their arm. It was so cute, but obviously not ideal for a super formal wedding.
i love the pomander... and they are easy make with tissue paper, ribbon, or silk flower

our venue does not allow flower petals to be thrown (or rice, or dried flowers or anything). we are going to go with bubbles for people to blow after we finish the ceremony, but i'm trying to think of other things the flower girls could do. we will have 3 of them, ages 7, 3 and 3, so the task cannot be too complicated (espeically for the little ones). any ideas?
