- Wedding: January 1994
So, I bought a (inexpensive) short dress a month or so back and I was thrilled about it. Until I started thinking about it some more. And I finally took a picture of myself in it, and I decided that I really wanted a long dress. With my wedding planned for less than 3 weeks away, this realization quickly turned into a mini-crisis. I’ve always known that I didn’t want to spend a small fortune on a dress, and that I would likely have something a bit less traditional. So, today I went shopping and was able to find the beginnings of a dress. It is dependent on me finding a good slip or underdress for it, as it is simply the stretch lace sheer shell. At one point it used to have a slip or underdress, but as I went searching at thriftstores, its previous owner I think gave up on that idea, and thrifted it sans the underdress. However, seemingly I paid less than $15 for it (and it retailed at nearly $100), I was more than happy to take on the task of finding something to pair with it.
I’ve kept an open mind in searching for a dress. And this has included looking at different colors. I think slowly our culture is moving away towards ‘just white’ wedding dresses, and some offbeat brides (like myself) are starting to move towards other colors. Like champagne, silver, beige, pink, and blue. Today, what I found was blue. And I plan to pair it with a white underdress. I’ll try and include a picture at a later date, but I simply can’t at this point without the underdress. But, I will describe it: It is scoop-neck, scoop-back, ankle length, stretch lace, form fitting with a slight flair at the bottom. And blue. If all goes well I will find a nice long white underdress/slip to wear with it, and I plan to pair it with pearls, and a long white veil (that I made myself).
Ladies! If you want something more unique, I say go for it. It can take some work finding it, but it will be worth it. With that said, finding your wedding dress be it traditional or not always takes some work. So do whatever makes you happy!
