    Hey bees!

I need some suggestions. We're having a forest-naturey themed wedding ceremony and reception. I've made candle-holders using recycled glass jars covered in moss and twine. Our centerpieces are going to be tree branches. Can anyone suggest some alternatives for vases other than store-bought glass vases? I'm making most of the decorations myself and like to cut costs where I can (who doesn't, right?)

    Thanks!

You could try make baskets out of twigs and leaves if you want to stick with the nature theme. If your looking to save money you could get your vases at the dollar store. Thats what i did. It was $1 a vase.

I thought of doing Pumpkins cut out as vases, that would be neat! We both have the same date!

Did you think about thrift stores? I had a vintage theme and bought different vases and pitchers from different thrift stores. You could always start browsing and see if something fits your theme.

    I'm using branches too!

I'm having a peacock themed wedding... and I wanted colored vases.

So we're using goodwill vases and making faux mercury glass by spray painting the interior with Krylon mirror paint. I found half of my vases for about .50 cents- $1.

The other half of the vases are going to be wine bottle (greens and blues) that we cut the neck of and make it into a cylindar vase.

This is what I'm doing Alternative for vases?? : wedding reception theme vases centerpieces branches tables recycle moss do it yourself diy String Spheres 500x375 You could maybe do the same thing but with twine.  Buy one glass vase and wrap the twine around and smother with fabric stiffener and let dry. Then remove the twine from the vase and voila...a rustic looking vase that's cheap and lightweight!  http://www.elizabethannedesigns.com/blog/2010/11/17/diy-decor-idea-string-spheres/

What about recycling old cans and covering either with twine, birch bark or even bird seed? :)

The twine wrapped around a vase and removed would not be strong enough or stable enough to hold branches.

    Alternatively, you could use :
-mason jars with a strip of burlap wrapped wround the center
-mason jars with a strip of birch bark wrapped around the center
-clay drain tiles cut to length

I can't post a pic with the issues the bee is having but here is a link in case you don't know what they look like- you get them at stores like Home Depot
