@Alternativedresses: Do you have a budget in mind? A lot of designers are making shorter dresses as part of their collections? Also, you could look for a designer you like on Etsy, and they’ll work with you on a custom design with a colorful fabric 🙂

Have you checked out offbeat bride? It’s not a wedding dress site but may give you more ideas.

also there are tons of dresses out ther that have a “wedding dress” feel to them but they come in different colors and styles. They are just not considered wedding dresses so you might not find them in bridal stores/websites.

I second overwhelmingly to check out Offbeat Bride-it’s my main wedding blog and the Offbeat Bride Tribe is a great resource and support system to those of us who ruffle the fluffy white tail-feathers of the Wedding Industrial Complex (WIC). Embrace those tats and find the dress you love!

From one tattooed bride to be to another:  I “third” the Offbeat Bride suggestion!

Also check out IndieBride.  It’s another wedding site with forums and resources and there are always great discussion threads about alternative wedding dress ideas!

I have given in somewhat on color because I really wanted something with a bridal feel, and with colored dresses I kept seeing them as too prom-like, or ballroom-dancing like, and less “bridal”, but your experience may be different, depends on what you like.  I originally wanted something very bridal (lace, full skirt, better fabrics), but in a pale silvery blue, and I just got tired of trying to find it!  If the darn things were cheap enough I’d just have one dyed! Wink

It totally depends on your style though!
