Title pretty much says it all!  I'm looking for more suggestions on alt/indie songs that are approrpriate for a wedding.  For example, I'm walking down the aisle to Radiohead's Paranoid Android (covered by our string quartet) and our first dance is probably either Ray LaMontagne's Hold You in My Arms (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSLQMNFdEf0) or Band of Horse's No One's Gonna Love You  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBiuQlW9tR4).

But I'm looking for MORE!  I like Indie over Alternative, but I'd love to hear your suggestions!  I wouldn't consider myself an offbeat bride but I definitely don't want to hear any Michael Bolton unless it's played ironically.  Because I'm hipster like that.  Not really, but you catch my drift.

So, any help?  Did you play Indie music?  Thanks :)

Our first dance was "By and By" by Brett Dennen and we cut the cake to "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

I would have loved to include more indie music, but our families wouldn't have "gotten" it :)

New songs I'm obsessed with: We Are Young by Fun and Sweet Darlin' by She & Him

If I weren't so out of it right now I could be better help. All I have in my head right now is "Plastic Stars" from Freezepop. Not really indie, but it's certainly different. I always figured I'd have it at my wedding. Also "Question" from the Old 97's is super sweet. The Avett Brothers have some good songs, too.

When I wake up a little I could probably think clearer and throw out some more suggestions.

Not sure if you consider KT Tunstall indie or not, but I love her music. She has this song "The universe and you" which I find beautiful.

I'll keep thinking of more! Do you want upbeat happy ones, or things you can dance to?

We're using these during the time the guests wait for the ceremony to start:

    Toothpaste Kisses -- The Maccabees

We all Know -- Devendra Benhart

Our Way to Fall -- Yo La Tengo

Built for This -- Ben Sollee

Love and Some Verse -- Iron and Wine

Some songs we have during the reception:

Your Happiness -- The Compulsive Gamblers

Wreck My Car -- Scott H. Biram

    Sophisticated Honky -- Orgone

Here Comes the Sun Again -- M. Ward

We made a decided effort to tone down our "indieness" during the reception, and to use a wide variety of music.  We were able to do this without resorting to anything underwhelming or overplayed.  (Our goal is to get a diverse group of people of different ages, tastes and backgrounds to dance, and much of the music we really love would have had most people shuffling around uncomfortably...)

    Good Luck!

All of our prelude/processional songs were by Vitamin String Quartet. My bridal party walked down to the VSQ's version of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven". My processional music was VSQ's version of Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". (My mom was a huge Queen fan and she died in 2005, so that was in her memory.) Our first dance was to "I Will Hold On" by Moxy Fruvous.

I didn't read through everything but how about some Teagan and Sara?

It's not indie alternative, but as a surprise I'm going to walk down the aisle to SOs favorite Phish song

It's a really great modern touch to use rock tunes for ceremony music, whether it be the recording or an alternate arrangement with live musicians. I recently sang at a wedding - 'Everlasting Light' by the Black Keys for the processional (done in an acoustic guitar arrangement), and 'You And I' by Ingrid Michaelson for the recessional. It was a ton of fun, and lyrically, they were absolutely the perfect choice for the bridal couple.

Our first dance song is going to be "If I ever leave this world alive" by Flogging Molly...  Haven't put the playlist together for the ceremony yet... It will probably be a mix of contemperary stuff and traditional stuff though..

My bridal party walked down aisle to Clem Snide's Find Love

I walked to Iron & Wine cover of Such Great Heights

Processional was Home by Edward Sharpe....

    Some other songs we played:

    Hysteric (acoustic)- Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Ben Kweller cover of God only Knows

    Cat Power - I Found a Reason

I have a ton more but can't remember them off the top of my head.

    Processional:

We're having "Concerning Hobbits" play during seating.

FI has to pick his yet

My ladies are walking down to Adele-Crazy For You

I'm walking down to this version of Storybook Love from The Princess Bride http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4njxT5idas&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL42C5B617B0DB122E

During the jar sealing part of the ceremony we will be playing either Red Hot Chili Peppers- Hard to Concentrate or Incubus- Stellar (acoustic).  I am a RHCP fanatic and the jive on HtC is so awesome, soooo probably that one :)

We have a few walk out choices atm:  Queen-Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Cake- Love You Madly

Our first dance is going to be Travis Tritt- Love of a Woman but we're also thinking of taking some lessons to learn an easy foxtrot or swing to Brian Setzer's- My Baby Only Cares For Me.

And our reception music is all over the place lol!

    Yay! Indie/Alternative!

Here's what my dream would be:

Processional-Sigur Ros song... haven't picked one yet. But I'm thinking "Starálfur" since it's played in one of my favorite movies ("Life Aquatic")

Song sung during ceremony- "Book of Love" Magnetic Fields or Peter Gabriel

Recessional- "Do You Realize" Flaming Lips (probably doing string version since it is about death and all...)

Introduction of bridal party- "Daylight" Matt and Kim

First Dance- "Real Love" Regina Spektor cover of John Lennon

Father/Daughter Dance- "Run to Me" Matthew Sweet cover

Last song- "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" (We're going to sing this to guests) Bob Dylan

@Bride2BeeVA28:  Aah! Somebody besides me is using The xx! I'm using it as my recessional, actually, because it's the closest thing there is to an "our song," and it's just so great. (We've seen them live several times, big fans here, LOL.)

Our entire wedding is filled with indie, goofy top 40, hip-hop, and 80s music. I'm walking to "Tighten Up" by the Black Keys and playing "I Know I Know I Know" by Tegan and Sara on acoustic guitar at the reception. There will be lots of Matt & Kim, Naked & Famous, MGMT, Ghostland Observatory, etc. on our dance playlist! I'm considering using "The Geeks Were Right" by The Faint as our entrance song, but who knows. Love some of the choices here!

We used Hold You in My Arms as our first dance!

    We also considered:

First Day of My Life- Bright Eyes

No One's Gonna Love You- Band of Horses

By The Way That They Dance- Jump Little Children

    Sweet Disposition- Temper Trap

Such Great Heights (we like the Iron and Wine version)

And... I can;t remember any of the others. It was too long ago. lol

We used a lot of VSQ for our ceremony. Everyone else walked to Waltz No 2 by Elliott Smith and I did Imagine by John Lennon.

I know I got a lot of ideas from the Indie Bride forums. I'd check that out. http://www.indiebride.com/kvetch/

    Yay for Indie music!

I'm also trying to keep my requests for indie music under control.  It's going to be hard though!  :)

    Songs I love:

    Matt Costa - Sunshine

Iron & Wine - Love and Some Verses

Alexi Murdoch - All My Days

Jon Troast - The Most (seriously cute song, if you've never heard it, check it out!)

Matt Nathanson - Come On Get Higher

I am so in love with the Iron & Wine version of Such Great Heights I can barely stand it. I would totally use this for our first dance song - we don't really have a song that's "our song", but if we did it would be this one.  I just think it's too slow and too long for me in that setting.
