My dream was always to get married in my parents’ backyard (or somewhere similar). Well, that fell through when they got divorced and sold the house. We have a friend that was willing to have our wedding and reception in their backyard (and she got really excited) but then her husband pointed out that they are still selling their house. They said we could still risk it, but if they sold the house and our wedding was still six months away, they’d have to sell it because they have to get out of their house (financial reasons).
We do have a venue that is in our price range and is just beautiful, but its not the vibe I’m looking for. If I have to, I will settle for that and still be happy but I’m still trying to find this perfect place.
My question is, what are some alternatives to look into that would be similar to a backyard wedding? My desire is to have it like a big family bbq that just happens to have a wedding.

Since we’re really far apart, I don’t have any specific venue suggestions for you…. But I am excited because your post pretty much sums up what we’re doing – very casual, family backyard bbq style, that happens to involve our wedding. We looked on the outskirts of our city and found a great place (a bit expesive but worth it) with fields/trees everywhere and a baseball diamond – yes, we’re playing baseball and bocce, etc (told ya it was casual). 🙂 Don’t settle just yet!

How about a park or garden? It has that lovely backyard feel without the risk of your venue suddenly being sold to new owners. Contact your local parks and see if they have areas you could rent. Also, check out Mrs. Earring’s blog posts on the main page. She had a GOREGOUS park wedding that I still to this day drool over.
