I went to a Catholic wedding in Altoona a couple years ago!
The reception was great and it was at The Casino at Lakemont.
I'll have to ask about the church, although it was a more contemporary church and not an old historic one with stained glass.
Here's a link to the Diocese website that lists the parishes in Altoona. Some of them look like they are beautiful! And don't forget to check in the surrounding towns too.
Thanks for your help, we got the church! Now the reception...
Many reception venues are booked in the Altoona area, so we're now looking for places between Altoona and Johnstown. Anyone have any ideas?
Here are a few places you could check out in the area:
- The Casino at Lakemont
- Scotch Valley Country Club
- The Calvin House
- The Imperial Room in Ebensburg (don't know if they're still around, but I went there once a long time ago and it was nice)
- Lemon Drop in Ebensburg
- Carrolltown fire hall - Actually doesn't look at all like a fire hall. It's very nice, although not as extravagant as the others, it would be WAY cheaper than the other ones I listed here

So, he is from the Altoona area and we're scrambling to throw together an October wedding in that area. I wanted so badly to get married in St. Michael's Basilica (#1 its gorgeous, #2 right next to St. Francis Gardens) in Loretto, but that it does not seem like that is going to work out. It is a Catholic wedding w/ around 100 guests.
I'm not from that area, and have next to no time to go search there for venues myself. Anyone know of a gorgeous catholic church in that area? A small parish would be GREAT... he was a memeber of St. Joseph's in Coupon now Ashville, which burned down last summer. And then there is the reception... gah. I can't find a good site to do any research on finding reception locations to save my life. Anyone have any thoughts? A good wedding vendor search engine by chance or reception suggestions? lol.
