I'm watching "Boardwalk Empire" and already there have been two scenes with gratuitous female nudity. Really??? Is it necessary? And where are the men going full-frontal? Let's see Steve Buscemi's junk if it's going to be equal.

Haven't you noticed that there is almost always female nudity but male nudity is very very rare?  Sort of disgusts me that the female body is treated so cheaply.

Honestly does anyone really want to see Steve Buscemi's junk? You gotta admit, the female body is much more graceful and beautiful than the male body!

@abbyful: I agree... I have wondered this before, but generally decide that although I love men (and love my man sans clothes), when it comes to strangers I would rather admire a woman with a great body than some random guy onscreen with white thighs and a hairy ass  ; )

@Birdie Love:  If you want equality then watch Forgetting Sarah Marshall!

not meaning to sound rude, but dont watch hbo original series if you dont want to see naked girls...they are well known  for trying to push the envelope. and im with pp, id much rather see full frontal of a female then a male...

@summerbvt: I was going to mention "Forgetting" as well.  I was one to complain about inequality but seeing that on the big screen made me think different.  No one needs to see that!

The movie Velvet Goldmine is another great provider of "equality." As far as celebrity penises go, though, I imagine Ewan McGregor's is probably a better sight than Steve Buscemi's.

Oz definitely overdid the male nudity...there was probably one scene of boobies but I can't remember. A whole room of men walking around flopping about, that's hard to forget...

Of course I am still going to watch HBO! They have such better programming (IMO) than network television! I'm just pointing out a double standard and how women are objectified.

And for the record, I don't really want to see Steve Buscemi's penis, either. :-)

Though I do have to admit that naked men definetly aren't as appealing as women (plus women tend to appreciate maked women unlike men appreciating naked men).

And on a side note, yum Ewan McGregor.  Will have to check out that movie!

@Rocketdog: lol a bunch of males flopping around!  I have to agree-I would much much rather see a pair of boobs on screen than some dude's flopper.  I think this is just where our society has headed, sex sells!

As graceful as the female body is, I still think it's fair that men should bare it all if we should. :)

Remember that quote from Seinfeld with Elaine? I think it was the episode where Jerry was complaining that his GF was always nude and Elaine said something like "A woman's body is beautiful, it's like a work of art. The man's body, it's so simian"... I don't agree per se, but women's bodies are so much more appealing than men's.

@MandaMack: I don't think the OP was asking whether or not she should watch HBO.

It doesn't really bother me one way or another.  Male, female...however, when watching Boardwalk Empire (episode 1) with my parents over the weekend, I would prefer no nudity!  LOL.  What can you do.  As one PP said...it's HBO.  It's what they do.

My husband and I had Boardwalk Empire on in the background last night while we were talking. He stopped mid-sentence and goes "that is a boob" and then continued back onto what we were talking about. It was too funny.

We watch a lot of HBO, but somehow we both still get surprised when someone gets naked on it.

Ok I have to disagree with the whole "women are more graceful" So not true. Our society has just told us that by exploiting women forever. I agree though, if we see naked women, we ought to see naked men...Not that I want to see either. Imagine if I became a famous singer and I talked about "thong thong thongs" (for guys) or "HE got back" lol... everyone would be in shock. We are not used to degrading men...just WOMEN!! Not fair...

@DanielleZara:  I definitely agree - women are seen as more beautiful because we grow up our whole lives thinking of women's bodies as something that are put on display.  If we grew up seeing men objectified that way it would be a different story. (and of course we would only be seeing the most genetically gifted 1% of men on display and even that would be totally airbrushed).

I'm one for equality, too.  Neither male nor female upsets me, but the endless parade of naked women gets kind of depressing.  Some of the men are worth looking at, and others?  I for one thing that seeing dudes flopping around is always, at the very least, entertaining.

(then again, I have a pretty crude sense of humor)

You could chase every episode of Bordwalk Empire with an Episode of Oz and that oughta do ya.

I, too, would rather see a random naked woman.  I really don't think that the cadaver was gratuitous nudity. Cadavers don't need clothes. The sex scene with the boobs was pretty mild to me.  I think it's more natural to see a topless woman having sex than a woman in a bra. Do you wear your bra and nothing else when doing the deed?
