Florist just sent me all her quotes.  I thought I was getting a "reasonable" amount of flowers, and I am spending $2200.  That's right, TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS.  And I only have two bridesmaids!  Most of it is centerpieces and set up.  My flowers are roses and daisies...some orchids...nothing crazy.

Is this at all normal?  I had originally thought I would spend maybe $1000 on flowers.  I only have ten tables, btw...so ten centerpieces.

I was very conservative on my flowers (though I did want a few calla lilies).  So for very small centerpieces and bouquets I was quoted at 1500.  Sooo.... we DIY and they turned out great.  We probably spent a good deal still, maybe around 600 but had lots and lots of flowers.

I think you ought to look at estimates from other florists.  We're having 20 centerpieces (6 large, 6 medium, and 8 small), my bouquet, 6 bridesmaid bouquets, 7 boutenierres (sp?) for FI and the groomsmen, corsages for the 2 moms, boutenierres for two ring bearers, flowers for the flower girl, flowers on my cake plus a couple of other arrangements for around the unity candle, the gift table, etc. for ~$2000.  We are using mainly red and white roses and white lilies (with some other filler flowers).

I think your florist sounds very over priced for what you're looking to do!

That seems like a lot for what you're getting!  We're spending $3k and we have 25 tables and 8 bouquets.

Do you have any other florist options?  get a couple of quotes to see if it's the area or if it's just unreasonable.

I am for sure not the person to be asking this...we spent waay more than you. But we also rented Chiavari chairs from our florist, and we have about 15 tables and four bridesmaids...but it can't hurt to shop around some more, especially since it seems like the flowers you want are on the less expensive side.

Take the orchids off and you'll probably get within your budget. And also simplify the set up.

I think it's pretty reasonable. I had flower sticker shock too...I had over 30 tables to cover, so the majority of my bill was centerpieces. It ended up being over $4K! So, if you're a flower whore, that would make me queen of them! LOL!!

    That sounds like lots.

My sister had 4 Bm`s with med sized bouquets, 4 GM with 4 small bouts, + a bout for the groom + a HUGE waterfall bouquet for herself.

She also had 5 arrangements for the church that were brought to the reception.

She did not do floral centerpieces (that I recall) but her overall cost was UNDER 2k. And she had lots of hydrangeas & cala lilies, so not ultra cheap flowers or anything.

My flower total is $570 which includes product and set-up fee. All of my flowers are roses. This is for 4 bridesmaids bouquets, bride bouquet, groom bout, 4 groomsmen bouts, 4 flower pins, 3 bouts for dads and grandpa. I am also getting two flower arrangements for the ceremony area that will be repurposed in the reception. I did not order centerpieces.

I looked at mainstream flower businesses, but their prices were really out of our budget. I ultimately worked with my DOC and she reccomended our florist who does floral work as a side business. She basically does 1 wedding a weekend, is very creative and gave us a great price. You may want to consider a florist who does not have a storefront because that will save you money. I also agree that orchids are expensive, but I can't imagine that they are driving your cost up too much if you are not using a lot of them!

that seems high!  check around at other florists.  I have 11 tables, 6 bm, 6 groomsmen, no ceremony decor and we're spending $1600.

I got a very similar quote from 3 different florists. And there were no orchids with my flowers, just garden roses, spray roses, spider mums, and craspedia. I only have 4 maids but they are carrying clutches with one flower attached, and I will be having 12 tables. The quotes were $1800, $2400. and $2100! Waaay out of my flower budget!

So now I am DIYing, using wholeblossoms.com, fiftyflowers.com, and Costco! I ended up purchasing 100 craspedia, 72 garden roses, 30 hydrangeas, and a couple of dozen spray roses and spidermums. Cost - $502! Well wihinn my budget!

I can't say how it turned out yet, but I am very optomistic since each company has called to verify my order (except Costco, but I buy flowers there all the time), and I am pleased with their customer service so far.

    Just a thought.

That's a hell of a lot for flowers. Wow. Sure you could buy a honeymoon for that! Lol! Def look into other florists, is it still a destination wedding? Could you get away with bowls of floating candles and fewer flowers for centrepieces maybe?

Hotel provides centrepieces for us, so I only have to worry about church flowers. We're ordering from flower market, and I reckon I'll get out on about 300-400.

It might be worth talking to your venue - they might have a competitive offer. Worth a look.

I think that is really ridiculous. I would try BJs or Sam's Club where you can order flowers and put the bouquets together yourself. Both clubs have great reviews and it is a TON cheaper. They even have fair trade and rain forest alliance flowers.

I would definitely keep looking. We have 6 BM bouquets, my bouquet, 7 bouts, 2 corsages and clutches for the flower girls for 1K.

DIY would really save a lot of money. Fiftyflowers.com has "centerpiece" arrangements where they will send you flowers unarranged that you have to put together for centerpieces (they have pics of the assembled centerpieces on their site). When I was looking at them, 10 centerpieces typically ran from 130 to 300.

Orchids can definitely spike the price. I couldn't stand the fact that the florist wanted $2500 from me and for the same thing, I could create it myself for about $500 including all centerpieces. I did it myself and ordered all roses from gammaflowers.com. Just do it yourself if you will have the time and help, especially if you are just using 1 or 2 different types of flowers. I did a trial run first, with a few flowers though, just to reassure myself. Get a 5% discount with coupon code: FirstBuy and Partner code: andreak
