As long as the dresses are easily returnable (and no deposits are lost), and you offered to do the work of returning them, I think that you are fine. But please make sure that you thoroughly research the replacement dresses before placing your next order and offer to do all of the work in ordering the replacement gowns.
The EXACT same thing happened to me - but they couldn't return them. Luckily only 2 had been purchased - but still. So the I put them on bridal classifieds and I'll probably try ebay soon too to sell them. I'll pay them the difference and if the dress doesn't sell then I'll pay them the cost for the dress. I felt liek a douche, but the girls seem happier with the other dress choices so that's a plus.
As long as they aren't out the money and you handle the leg work, there shouldn't be a problem. Double check the swatches at the salon with whatever you're trying to match it to, Good luck.
You offered to do the work and if they aren't out of money, then it should be okay. I think as long as you don't do this to them several times they really won't mind.

Ok, so, long story short, I asked my bridesmaids to return their dresses after they had already purchased them. I hadn't seen the dresses in person, but I saw them in another person's wedding pictures, and they weren't the right color--not even close! They were going to look horrible with my wedding colors. I told the 'maids as apologetically as possible, and tried to make it as easy on them as possible, offering to do the returns for them if necessary. They were nice about it, but I just feel like a jerk. I know I made the right decision b/c I would've hated the way those dresses looked in the pictures. Was this a terrible thing to do?
