My advise is to take one item a day and get it done. I've got all the major items done and now I'm down to the fine details of each item. I would say you need to get your dress done now. Some dresses can take a few months to come in. Plus you'll need to do a couple of fittings. The knot.com has a great checklist with a timeline that really helps.
I'd start looking for your dress as soon as you can. If you're planning on getting something off-the-rack, you have time, but if you're planning to order something from a salon, you may need to pay a rush fee. Your invites should be mailed in February, so they're probably next. Then look for any vendors you need, if the folks you contact are booked, ask them for recommendations. Favors and programs can easily be put off until March or April.
I actually recommend against the knot checklist at this point for you--about 75,000 things will be marked "late" even though you still have plenty of time. (I was engaged for 6 months, and the knot totally stressed me out because I "needed" to have about a billion things done before we were even engaged.) I did like the checklist at MarthaStewartWeddings.com.
Good luck, and breathe! It will all get done!
Hiya!!! I would recommend definitely working on your dress nad booking the vendors. You still have time for the stationary items, in particular the programs and favors. Start thinking about the style of invitations you may like.
As everyone else suggested, using a checklist can help you stay on task. Good luck!!
I'd get moving! :) My dress took 4 months to come in, and that doesn't count alterations (way too early to have those done for me.)
I work in events at a hotel, and we are booked every Saturday in April - although you have your venues I'm assuming, vendors (florist and DJ) will be booked too.
Invites should be ordered soon as well.
Deep breaths, just take it one day at a time!
Good luck!
Yes work on that dress STAT if your buying from a salon you will almost definitely have to do a rush order. Good luck!
thanks guys...
I'm actually renting my dresses and the woman there told me alterations can be done in 2 weeks so i'm not so worried about that... but
Do you april brides have your dj booked? How much are you paying? (If you dont mind me asking)
I'm an April bride, but not going to be any help on the DJ. My DJ is my FSIL's ex, who will be charging us $200. A DJ that we contacted (just in case), was charging $2000, which I thought was completely unreasonable. I know DJs can add lights and make sure you're on schedule, but $2000? (That amount did NOT include lights, by the way!).
Anyway, I still have a lot to do... Rent linens/chair covers and chairs for the ceremony, make the bouquets (I will be making fabric bouquets), finish about 20 favor boxes, finish the invitations, get my dress altered, schedule a make-up artist, and all kinds of little details!
Ahh... Time to get back to "work" (wedding "work," that is!). One last thing, though, I haven't run into many vendors that are booked for April weddings, so if it's any consulation, at least you're not getting married in wedding season!
thats about everything that i have to help my friend w/ planning her wedding. at least we got the huge stuff out of the way because as soon as they booked the venue, the caterer came with the venue and it turned out to be a great deal for them on both parts.
I have checked quite a few things off the list but still have lots to do. The wedding is in CT and our DJ is about 700 dollars (I think?) Really affordable - hope it all works out! I got a few references so I am fairly confident it will go well...fingers crossed.
I have my dress but I bought it off the rack at a bridal salon.
We're getting the bridesmaids dresses tomorrow - they were ordered in August.
I don't have a florist yet - thinking of DIY centerpieces and hiring a florist to do bouquets/bouts.
I have a photographer.
I have a venue and caterer.
I have our church.
Still to do:
INVITATIONS (big time - procrastinating BIG time...)
Transportation
Cake/Desserts
Accommodation for guests (figuring out which hotel etc...)
Details like - table names/place cards/favors/pew decoration for the church/centerpiece details like candles-vases-candle holders
Musicians for the ceremony
Music choices for ceremony and song list for DJ
I am not too stressed out but I think after New Years that will start to change ever so slightly!!!
Good luck!
Hi there! My wedding is April 24 I am also looking for a DJ but also a Mariachi band for my dinner reception. I called one DJ that was supposed to be a friend of mine and he quoted me 1,200 for 4 hours and 350 for any additional hours. I thought that was outrageous but I still don't know what is reasonable for a DJ to charge. Have you gotten any quotes in your area MrsBear?

Sorry, there are no users yet.
So our wedding is in april 2010 and I still need to find a dj, do invitations, pick out a wedding dress, book a florist, get favors together, and make program cards.
I feel like I should be getting all these done soon and booking with the vendors but i feel so overwhelmed that i dont know where to start and what needs to be done first. I'm starting to freak out!!
April brides... what have you done so far? Do you think i'm behind??
please help!
