No you do NOT have to buy from her registry. Gift cards are always welcomed. And you’re not cheap, you are economically challenged. I NEVER even look at registries, I get with what I think they will like and my budget allows.

@Bells – Great idea!!!  That way the op is not constrained to certain items to fit in her budget.  She can get a gift card for the exact amount she wanted to spend.  From my experience,  I got gift cards for both my shower and wedding and LOVED them!  Although they were all great, the ones for the store where i registered were awesome.  I saved them till after the wedding and combined them all and went on a nice shopping trip where I was able to get soem larger items off my registry as well as random small items that weren’t bought but I really wanted.  You really can’t go wrong with gift cards!

ya i say go with a gift card or just go to walmart and get her some plates and bowls  or maybe some nice wine glasses and bottle of wine. that what we did for my friends party. honestly this is a gift she should be happy with what is given to her.

I think it might be cute if you fill the bowl with some with a few inexpensive treats. Maybe candy or a few hand creams or something…. That way you are giving her somethink that you know she wants plus you are adding something to it. I don’t think it will seem cheap at all, especially since she knows you are a student.

I think a gift card would be good…or you could get a pedicure certificate at a local nail place  to keep her a beautiful and relaxed bride!

That is a good idea fill the bowl , I registered at walmart and walmart only just because I dont want people to feel the way you do…Your a good person to be worring about your gift your putting alot of thought into it to be posting it on here. Your gift is what she wanted and filling the bowl is a extra cute and thoughtfull touch!

honestly, i wouldn’t go off registry to get her plates, bowls, etc….a lot of bees have been saying it has annoyed them when people have bought them things that were similar but not identical to their registry items.  what about a bottle of champagne or a nice bouquet of flowers?  every girl loves flowers!

You are not cheap at all! I remember shopping for a good friend of mine one time and the least expensive item was a $45 TRASH CAN for the BATHROOM!! lol… so I bought it and filled it with a “bridal day survival kit”… safety pins, band aids, etc. It was a big hit!

get a gift card.  or buy her an apron or something creative not on her registry.  who doesn’t like a cute vintage inspired apron?  it will be a big hit at the shower!

I agree with @Melly8…before I have purchased a saucepan from a registry and combined it with pasta in cute shapes (they were ABC’s and she was a teacher) and maybe a dishtowel not on the registry and wrapped it all up.
