Erm…yeah I’d say worrying about this is a little ridiculous. Personally I’d be more worried about the possible germs on it than the plastic.

I’d be more pissed that our pizza shop left a bread tie in our pizza than about cancer. Just touching a bread tie isn’t going to give you cancer or birth defects.

I wouldn’t worry about it causing birth defects or cancer. I would call the pizza place and complain though, you might get a free pizza out if it.

The American Cancer Society addresses (At least in the case of plastic water bottles) this issue, too.

“DEHA is not inherent in the plastic used to make these bottles, and even if it was the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says DEHA “cannot reasonably be anticipated to cause cancer, teratogenic effects, immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity, gene mutations, liver, kidney, reproductive, or developmental toxicity or other serious or irreversible chronic health effects.” Meanwhile, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), says diethylhexyl adipate “is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans.””

Dont worry. People have survived much worse than accidentally ingesting (if he even swallowed it) plastic. AND there have been 1,000s – 10s of 1,000s of woman who in their 1st trimester who did not know they were pregnant and have ingested much worse than a plastic tie. There are many enviornmental factors that you can not and will not be able to control. Of course always try your best. It is probably more harmful to sit there and worry about it. Stress is a hugely underestimated factor that causes illness & disease.
