- Wedding: June 2014
Not sure if this goes here but…
I need some help, advice, or whatever you can offer…. FI and I are getting married at the end of June. I was previously engaged back in early 2012. At that time my mother contracted a caterer and paid the deposit. I ended up calling the wedding off and the caterer kept the deposit. So when I got engaged at that end of last year, I saw the caterer and he offered to let us use the previous deposit my mother paid. My mother decided to do that so that the money would not be a total loss.
FI’s mother offered to pay half the catering bill when we had a family meet n greet just after the engagement so it all would not be on my mother. Well FI thought since my mother got the credit of the deposit that the catering bill would be split 50/50 post the credit. Meaning my mother would pay her 50% plus the deposit she already paid. I explain to him that is not fair and I am not about to tell my mother she owes more than calculated be he is looking at this deposit like it’s a discount or something.
Am I being unreasonable or unfair in this situation?
