@dewingedpixie:  Sounds like an excellent challenge to me! Even being off the bike for a month your LUNGS are still trained for the endurance! Even at worst, if it ends up being really difficult for you, you’ll finish and have a great goal for what you want to beat next time!!

Have fun! And yes, I think you’re a *little* crazy 😛 but very inspirational!

do it.. 🙂  you could easily do that with your level of training. 40k will just warm you up nicely for that last 5k..

I’ve never done a duathlon either but given my favourite part is the swimming, I’m not all that tempted at the moment.

@dewingedpixie:  I want to be you when I grow up. The duathlon sounds like something I could do in a week, not in a day.

Seriously though, your workout schedule sounds amazing and I can’t wait til I am at your level!

hopefully it won’t be too humid! I did a 10k in Boston last Sunday and it was so humid I felt like I was overheating and had to walk a few times (made the mistake of wearing a cotton shirt…but I had a specific shirt I wanted to wear!). I was a bit disappointed, because the weekend before I ran a little over a 10k and was fine…stupid humidity!

That sounds like a good activity for you, you sound very prepared!

@dewingedpixie:  you will be fine.  since  were already swimming, cycling, and running your muscle memory should come back pretty quickly.

i did a sprint distance triathlon last weekend.  i felt so untrained because i’ve only been in the pool a handful of times in the last few months and i didn’t run as much as i thought i would, but i came in 12 out of 45 in my age group (yeah, 3 different races that weekend lead to a very small race).

i did a half ironman 2 years ago.  i’m wouldn’t feel ready for it today, but put me on the course, i would finish it with decent time.  it just might not be pretty.

you will do great at your race, good luck!

@dewingedpixie:  make sure you do a brick – bike and then run after.  I was surprised at how hard it was the 1st time. I could only muster like 1km before wanting to keele over.  but once you get used ot it its totally OK 🙂

@dewingedpixie:  you haven’t done a full IM? I don’t know why I had it in my head that you had. must be some other bee I’m thinking of.  I’m sure there will be many more duathlons you can sign up for, maybe with a bit more advance notice so you won’t be worried about not being ready. 🙂 your husband sounds like mine, always willing to sacrifice so that I can do whatever race I have my heart set upon and it’s difficult sometimes not to take advantage of that.
