That's so weird! You'd think they would be wanting some business! HAve you tried going in person?
I have gone to a few in person but most of the times the local ones are closed by the time I get off work. The ones I have made it into have taken my information and said they would love to help me out and to let them do some research and they will get back to me and still 3-4 weeks later I got nothing =(
Hey I just realized you are in Spokane... I was living in Moses Lake for 2 years working on a construction site there and i was in Spokane almost every weekend!
That's even more weird! Did you do any follow up calls recently?
Haha. Cool! I'm not there, yet. I'm in Portland for about 3 more weeks! So excited to be going home!
Ugh. I had this problem with every single wedding vendor category! I came to the conclusion that if their customer service is THAT bad, I probably don't want to work with them!
How are you wording the e-mails? Are you saying you want to meet, talk to them on the phone, or something else? I found that putting a set date in- I'd love to hear from you within two weeks/month/week/hours/etc.- helped me get more responces back, as it added a sense of urgency, I think. When you e-mail them, try saying, "Look, if I don't hear back from you within a week (then put a date 1 week from that day here), then I am going to assume you are uninterested in my business and take you out of the running/pool of candidates/etc." Its harsh, but sometimes I think wedding vendors (and travel agents ARE wedding cendors if you're using them for your wedding!) have no sense of time or place or customer service!
Good luck!
Do you really need a travel agent? We've been all over the world and never booked with an agent. Use kayak for hotels and flights. We tend to use tripadvisor to find the best hotels then figure out which of those we can afford. Inexpensive is bad if the place is bad.
Thanks ladies, I will try wording messages and emails differently to try to get a better response and maybe be a little more "aggresive" without being abrasive.
I dnt necessarily think I "need" a travel agent, I have just heard from other people and agents that they can end up saving guests and us quite a bit of money because of all the contacts they have. Like I said I just kind of want to see what they have to offer.
Yes, that is strange! we are getting married in the DR and I hired a travel agent to set up all the packages and everything for us. She made a flier and I slid it into the save the dates! IDK if this is proprt etiquite but this is the way we did it! I went with a local woman (MD) cindy@colesvilletravel.com She's really good! Another destination bride I know went thru destinationweddings.com with the travel agnet Karliyn (kbarnett@destinationweddings.com) ...she is AMAZING!
I would try both of them. They are both extremly responsive via phone or email and they both treat your wedding like it is a top priority for them!
Good Luck :)
are you checking your junk mail folder?
I was piss butt upset that 3 photogs never responded to me, but then one day I went into my junk mail folder to check something else and found emails from all three of them!
Fortunately (?) they were all out of our budget anyway, so it's not like I missed out on signing with them. Genuinely fortunate was the fact that our wonderful photog who we are signing with DID get her emails through to me! :)
Sorry you are going thorugh all that. When professionals do not respond to phone calls, e-mails, etc. it is very frusterating! I went through Destinationweddings.com for our Mexican Riviera wedding this October. It is worth the $50 deposit to get connected to a travel specialist who can give you information and help you choose a lcaoction and arrange ALL travel arrangements. It is even worth a look at their website under the tab destinations if you are still undecided about a location. Good Luck!
I had some trouble with the first few travel agents I tried to get things going with, so I ended up with the one my parents use for all of their travel arrangements with their company (word of mouth is always great, ask some fam or friends for recommendations if you haven't done so already!). I don't think the distance (or closeness for that matter) is as important, my travel agent is in Utah, and I live in New Jersey! As long as it's someone who you're comfortable talking to, is able to get back to you in a timely manner, and who has their **** together! Make sure to ask if they're used to dealing with group travel arrangements, this will not only tell you if they're capable for what's to come, but will be a huge stress off of you so you can just direct everyone to him/her, and not have the added stress of planning this wedding AND having to do everyone's travel plans!
I've also heard that destinationweddings.com is very helpful, but another way to find an agent is if you already know where you want to do your wedding, look on blog boards for that location and ask who they used, this is helpful because you will find someone who is already familiar with the location, and who can probably find or knows the best rates and deals! Good Luck!
BTW, I'm getting married at Dreams Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, my travel agent is Michele Ross with Cruise and Travel Masters based in Utah (michele@cruiseandtravelmasters.com) and my wedding coordinator at the resort is Sharron, she's fabulous!
I'm using Nancy Barkley - she owns the company Honeymoons and Getaways.
I actually found her on brides.com - she is in PA and we're in Chicago, but she specializes in destination weddings and she has been nothing but fantastic. She got back to me right away when I first contacted her and she responds to emails within hours. She's always available by phone, too. Basically, she'll find the best deal for you, and if you or your guests happen to find something cheaper, she'll price match. She offered us travel insurance and has been our liaison with the hotel and the hotel's wedding coordinator.
I seriously would be going crazy at this point if I hadn't found her.
If you need help with a travel agent I know someone. They are located in CA if you don't mind not having face to face meetings. Let me know... Best of Luck!
Beyond searching for a travel agent, search for a local destination wedding or honeymoon planner. My travel agent specializes in destination weddings. She immediately started a search for me and she has basically become my wedding planner too. She said she LIKES to be the contact person between me and the resort wedding planner. Then she knows whats going on and can get me the best service. I'm so happy with my travel agent. Once you find one, it is worth the peace of mind.

I, for reasons unknown to me, cannot seem to find a travel agent who will respond to me. I have called and emailed tons in the area I am currently living in and, since I am moving next weekend, all the ones in the Ponca City area in Oklahoma. Guess how many I have heard back from...not one! I would really love to at least hear what they can offer from a professional stand point before I try to attack this monster alone. What the heck is going on? I am trying to find the best hotel and airfare deals for my Fi and I and our guests. Every time I have spoke with one at a bridal show/fair they tell me to contact them and elaborate on all the things they can do for me but we I do contact them I never hear anything back. Ugh its just frustrating! Thanks for letting me vent
