So our wedding is in less than three weeks. We’ve been talking forever about wanting another dog. We are breed specific, know we want a puppy, and want to rescue this time. While our current dog was at the groomer yesterday I wandered into Petsmart and they happened to have had a purebred 5 month old female westie. She is EXACTLY what we want. I expressed my concerns to her foster mom about our wedding quickly approaching, turns out her daughter is getting married the week before me, she gets my concerns and said she would be more than willing to take her for us the weekend of the wedding. We’ll be sending our other dog to his usual camp, but she’s just too little. We’re not honeymooning until January so that’s also not an immediate concern. I just feel like this is fate, but also realize I may just be jaded and in love. Thoughts?!?!

I’d go for it! I’m sure it will be some work at first, but a 5 month old should be mostly potty and crate trained already.

@Funsince1983: Fate! I would snap up that gorgeous little girl and just remind yourself its just one weekend she’ll go back to her foster mum, and you get to provide her with a loving home forever!
Ooooh she’s so CUTE!

@Funsince1983: If you want her and are capable of taking care of her, I see no reason why you shouldn’t have her.

Awwww what a cutie! I think if it’s just for a weekend, it’s fine. Very kind of the foster mom to offer to take her. When our dog was that age, we had to go out of town on a long weekend and she did fine with our friends who watched her. My only concern would be to make sure you can handle the initial costs (vet bills, puppy food, etc.) and stress of introducing a new puppy to the house right before the wedding.

@MrsPanda99: +1. She needs a home and you have one for her! I say go for it 🙂

@Westwood: she is already half housebroken and fully crate trained which is great because we still crate our two year old westie during the day.
@bleusteel: I forgot to add that she was briefly adopted this weekend. A family took her home Friday night and brought her back yesterday morning claiming their son was allergic which I find hard to believe, westies are hypoallergenic but whatever. So, she comes with crate, food, toys, the whole nine. Only out of pocket right now would be her adoption fee.
@inky_1: HI LISA!

OMG a Westie. I say do it just based on that alone. I grew up around a Westie, and although they are high energy, they are fantastic dogs. My mom is still, to this day, mouning his loss, and he has been gone for about 15 years. Such great dogs.

- Wedding: November 2013 - St. Augustine Beach, FL
I couldn’t imagine adopting a puppy with less than 3 weeks to go until our wedding. It’s so much work and I am a big believer in taking a week or two off work to help the new pup get used to the household and for me to learn their pee/poo expressions. That said, if you think you can make it work, and you’ve been ready to add on to your family then do it. It will take a little more work and a bit more hectic than usual but I think it will work out if you commit yourself to making it work.

@Funsince1983: Absolutely do it! That is totally fate.
Good luck on the upcoming wedding and your soon-to-be NEW PUPPEH!!!!!
