I am extremely close to my Mom too and found it very difficult when I had to move out to go to College at 17. I cried and cried and missed her for years.

Now I live with my FI and still wish my Mom was closer *she lives four hours away*. I think it’s totally normal to be upset about moving out of home- it is tough and marks a new stage in our lives.

However, I think you’ll be very happy with your fiance and you’ll be surprised how often you do get to see them!

I promise you it will get easier. You do miss that stuff but that makes going home even more special 🙂 There’s no reason when you’re living with FI you can’t go stay a weekend at home, I do all the time. My FI knows I’ll always be very close to my mum and he accepts that and supports it.

Not at all! I am 26 and still do this and I don’t give a crap what’s “immature”! My Mum loves it and so do I. If it makes you and your parents happy go for it!

No way! I have friends of all ages moving out of home for the first time *from early 20s til 30s* and every single one of them finds it hard. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be society’s idea of “mature” or “what you should feel”

I got closer with my mum when I moved out. Maybe you will be as lucky! (Granted we were constantly arguing because our depression made us clash)

I found moving out hard for a different reason. I was escaping an abusive home and I didn’t have a dollar to my name. I just knew I couldn’t take it anymore. My anger kept me from missing my parents.

As with any life change, there is bound to be some grief. You may not be ready to move out yet and that is okay. I would be more worried for you if you were 40 and having this reaction, but you are still quite young.
