Am I the only anti-rustic bride out there?

You’re not alone. I live in Texas and love craft beer, so people expected us to have a rustic wedding.

Nope!

We had a formal Catholic wedding followed by a ballroom reception. Not a piece of burlap or jar was to be seen.

I’m indoorsy. Why would I want to take a nice air-conditioned space and make it look like the woods, which I hate?

seevang: Nope. I hate mason jars, burlap (I REALLY hate burlap), and scraggley, leggy wildflowers.

I like clean, crisp, classic touches with big round roses and simple, elegant font. No stupid initial flags, no crazy white-on-brown scibbled invitations, no bird cage card boxes- tust simple elegance.

Not alone! I’ve seen enough rustic theme weddings to last a lifetime.

Your not alone!!! I think it looks nice. But personally think its way to over done. I love the timeless classy look. Flowers, lots of candles, and silvers 🙂

Not alone at all!!! I hate anything rustic for weddings, if you like it good for you but if anyone tries to bring that stuff to my classy downtown wedding they are going to get it thrown at their head. I have such bad aim that it will miss them completely but at least it will get my point across 🙂

I would say that I think its “cute” but I feel like it is something I would regret later. My theme is rather youngish but we are staying away from the rustic vibe.

We are doing an “Enchanted Forest” theme with forest, animals and disney added in. No mason jars, no burlap and maybe some wildflowers but it’ll be more to make it whimsical but mainly roses.

I’m with you. Everytime I hear “Rustic wedding” my eyes roll. Mainly because EVERYONE in my town is doing that…maybe if it wasn’t as common I would feel differently.

I feel the same way. I definitely did everything in my wedding as elegant & modern as possible.

seevang: I’m equally as annoyed, but for a different reason haha. I’ve wanted the rustic/woodsy wedding for YEARS, years before even knowing my FI. Now it’s so popular I’m trying to think of ways to make mine unique. Ugh, so depressing. My FI and I are actually woodsy people who live in the country, not just following a trend. Hoping all the DIY touches we’re doing will still make our wedding unique!

I know how popular these are, but around here, I’ve never attended a single rustic themed wedding, including all the ones I’ve been to this year so far. Nary a mason jar or burlap in sight, and if there were, my guess is that relatively few would recognize the trend. I have seen some absolutely gorgeous, less structured, less formal floral centerpieces, but I wouldn’t call them rustic.

I want mason jars to hold drinks for a summer wedding but everything else rustic I absolutely hate. Its just not my thing. Ive seen nice rustic weddings but never in a million years would I want my own weding to be rustic. you are not alone !!

winterwoodlandbride15: That is exactly how I felt! We spend more time outside than inside and love to hunt and blah blah blah. I’ve always loved vintage and I’ve always loved lace.

now its a “thing” and I temporarly hate it.

Which makes me sad, but I’m making my wedding more elegant than rustic…with some country added in.

winterwoodlandbride15: Same here! But I’m a pretty laid back person and I’ve never dreamed of having a fancy or “elegant” wedding- that would be as out of place and out of character for me as a lot of these brides would be at a rustic wedding!

The way I see it is if the rustic woodsy theme fits your and your spouse, it won’t seem trendy or Pinterst-y, it will just seem natural, just like my best friend’s modern, formal wedding fit her and her husband. I think as long as you stick to things you really love, as opposed to having everything under the “rustic” tag on Pinterest, you’ll be fine 🙂

akkaer1: Me too! haha… I keep finding different ways to describe it… ‘winter woodland’ mixed with ‘rustic glam’ lol… it will be a unique combo of both of us though. 🙂
