I sit at my desk at work with absolutely nothing to do on a regular basis. I work at a small Advertising/Graphic design shop, the only other person here is my boss. All I can do is think of all the things I could be doing if I weren’t here. My boss rarely offers to let me go early… and I hate to ask.
Instead – I sit here on wedding bee. Anyone else sit at work with nothing to do… a lot?

@nolabee39: *raises hand eagerly* YES!!! I’m an accountant (not a CPA), and some days I’ll only have an hour or two of work. Gah. And the funny thing is my boss thinks that I’m always sooooooooo busy lol. I get my work done, I do it well, and I get great reviews. I’m over asking for additional work. I’ve been here for over a year now and every time I would ask for more work, I would get a strange look. Whatever, just trying to be productive people!!
One of my good friends works for a different company and is in the same predicament. She’s convinced that the “real world” is just comprised of people pretending to work all day LOL

I am a “customer experience manager” at a car dealership. If they aren’t selling cars I have absolutely nothing to do. I feel completely unproductive all of the time. The lack of stuff to do actually makes me not like my job.

I did that ALL THE TIME at my last job. I never had 40 hours worth of work so I played online all day (mainly WB).
I also planned the vast majority of my wedding while at work to help fill the hours.

Haha, yes!!! I have days I’m so busy I can’t breathe. But I have many, many days where I have 1-2 hours of work to do or absolutely none. I could probably come in once a week and get all my work done for the week, most times. I am at work by myself tho, so I like it. Gives me time to surf the Internet and work on myphotography and graphic design that will hopefully be my career someday!!
This year I’ve been super busy, tho…

The pharmacy is lulls and then craziness throughout the day, so yeah, half the time I feel like I’m doing absolutely nothing, and then the other half I can’t move fast enough. Don’t people realize that EVERYBODY AND THEIR BROTHER wants to refill their prescriptions during lunch hour and right after work (5-6 ish)? Just sign up for auto-refill already so you can stop complaining about having to walk around the store for 20 minutes while we manually refill your script 😛

I have this problem. My boss doesn’t mind if I wander the internet, but I feel guilty!

I am a night time commercial cleaner so I always have something to do at “work” can’t be cruising online while washing a toilet… HA!
We come back home at 7:00-8:00 AM each morning… so WB and the internet cruising are my thing all day long!

@ciel: I feel guilty too! I almost feel like hiding all my open windows on my screen so he doesn’t see that I’m not working. Which is silly because he knows if I have work or not.

Some days I’m busy all day. Other days, like today, I have NOTHING TO DO. Or what I have to do is 15 minutes and I don’t feel like doing it. So it’ll wait until tomorrow.
I don’t mind. Better than having too much to do, and getting in trouble if it’s not all done!

Ugh, same boat here. It drives my Fiance crazy because he’s busy enough to stay late most of the time at his job. But doing nothing is awful. And it makes me feel like I’m going nowhere! I used to work 20 hours a week, but they decided I should be full time because I took on more responsibility (and maybe an hour or two more work a week). It doesn’t help that I do mindless things in an industry I have no intention of continuing in, so I don’t really feel inclined to take on more or take initiative.

I have literally worked on 2 projects (That took a total of two hours) in the past two weeks. Sigh… Good thing I have a wedding to plan or else I would be going stir crazy!

OMG! So jealous! I’m the opposite. I am frantic at work all the time, I come in early, stay late and then work at home. It actually puts a lot of pressure on Fi & I’s relationship because he is frustrated that when he wants to hang out, I am always on my laptop. (I’m on lunch right now:))
I don’t know how to talk to my boss about this. I’m young and wnat to be successful but ultimately it is not the most important thing to me.
PS we’re in the same industry! That made me excited 🙂
