I don't like it either. Plus, it's just not safe. My dogs always ride in our car and I'm actually thinking of getting seatbelts for them. My thoughts always drift to 'what if i had to slam on my brakes' and I would feel horrible if something happened to them. They are my kids too!
I saw a dead dog on the side of the road yesterday right before I saw the idiot with his dog...and I was like "that could have been anyone's dog! That poor baby!!" It just frustrates me to death. I want to follow them and tell them how unsafe that is for their dog and how selfish it is of them. (obviously I don't follow them, but I have thought about it). Poor puppies. :(
I think it's a horrible idea to put dogs in the bed of a truck. I am not a big fan of referring to dogs as kids, but I do think people shouldn't get a pet if they're not going to keep it safe, comfortable, and happy.
We had to go 20 mph on a road last night because there was a dog in the back of a truck, with the tailgate down, running back and forth.....we were like, "wow....are they stupid?!" thinking their dog would probably slip, go flying out the back of the truck, and we'd end up hitting the dog ourselves. It's such a hoosier thing to do! And, isn't it illegal in most states?
I don't know if it's illegal, but it should be...however I'm sure people would do it anyway. I highly doubt it's illegal in TX, as I think it is legal for PEOPLE to ride in the bed of a truck here...but still :( It breaks my heart that people could do that to their dog. Now, you have the tailgate secured and the dog is in a kennel, or you have a topper...I'm content with that.
Wow, I can't believe people do that! It makes me nervous enough when dogs are in cars and not belted in. What if you stop short or they jump out at a light?

Who thinks pets should not be riding in the bed of a truck?! :( I get so sad when I see people with their dogs in the bed and no one but the driver in the cab. I know dogs are messy and they are a pain to clean up after, but yesterday hubs and I saw a guy with a flatbed driving around with his dog on the bed! Seriously. At least put your dog in a secured kennel. It just makes me all fired up. It's like "do you let your kids ride back there too?!"
Maybe it's just me, but my dogs are my kids and I could not IMAGINE letting them ride anywhere but in the vehicle with us.
