My fiance and I were planning on doing some DIY elements. But then, after we got to thinking about it and adding the costs, it wasn’t saving us that much money to DIY, so we were just like “Eh, eff it, let’s just get someone else to do it for us.”
I feel like a bride failure for hardly (or not at all, actually) DIYing anything.
In all fairness to us, we are in the process of buying a new home (will be closing about 3-4 months before the wedding) and my fiance works a lot of OT so he has no desire to DIY anything when he has free time. And I’m busy with the stupid new common core standards changing around my curriculum (plus I have a student teacher – yay!!!). Not that these are great excuses, but please bees, anyone else not DIY?

@FoxyBride14: I DIY’d things so I can’t completely relate but I did want to say that you are by no means a failure of a bride. 🙂
We close on our house in a few weeks and get married in June. It’s crazy but totally worth it and whether you DIY or not at the end of the day you are married to your husband and have a beautiful home together!!

@springbride23: haha, thanks.
I see all of these posts about DIYing and we went to Michaels with a full intention of DIYing a card box. Well, I guess we were overly ambitious (or have expensive tastes) because what we (would have) bought came to over $130. So I was like screw it, let’s just order one off of Etsy, I’m sure it’ll be prettier than what we would have done anyway.

@FoxyBride14: I tried to DIY a cardbox and it seemed to be going really well until the sprayadhezive starting soaking through all the fabric and looking awful. I threw it out and bought one off Etsy. lol Sometimes it just makes sense to have someone else do it.

@FoxyBride14: Me me me! We went from planning a DIY barn wedding with a BBQ, to an evening country club wedding. I love the idea of saving money, but I also know my type A personality, and truthfully, I realized I would become a mad woman when we started discussing renting porto-potties and sweeping barns. And, like you, I work in an elementary school and feel like I’m doing all I can to survive writing IEPs, reports, etc!

Yeah I’m not interested in DIY at all. I’ve heard too many horror stories. I’d rather just pay someone or skip it.

@FoxyBride14: Don’t fret, I won’t be DIYing anything either! I am very artistic and creative and could definitely make decor or invites that any bride would kill for, but I don’t want to kill myself DIYing. I don’t want to stress about it. My venue, I think, speaks for itself and doesn’t need a lot of decor, so I will just be using the standard linens, and floral centerpieces. I guess I could do the paper products (STDs, Invites, Menus, Etc) but for a wedding of 150 people, but I feel like that’d be daunting.
I just wouldn’t know what else to DIY.

I’m not DIYing, either! (It would be a total disaster if I even tried!)

I kind of like ETSY for that reason. Everything looks DIY without you actually having to DIY it.
We had tons of etsy stuff….but we didn’t do anything ourselves.

@FoxyBride14: I’m not DIY-ing ANYTHING either! It’s not in my nature…Time is money to me, and I would spend hours obsessing over anything and everything, so it’s just not worth it to me. TBH, I don’t really know what I’d do myself-we have a florist, DJ, photog, etc…I ordered a bunch of signs and decorations from Etsy (things I couldn’t ever make myself)..but I’m not sure what else there is to DIY even if I wanted to 🙂

@FutureMrsHarris2014: I’m such a type a as well so nothing I do would be perfect & I’d probably drive my fiancé crazy. I’m in a high school, math, and the common core sucks. I would die with port-o-potties too. Hope your wedding turns out beautiful in the country club!!!
@springbride23: glad to hear someone else is doing the same. Your story made me happy we didn’t even go through with our purchases.

@FoxyBride14: I will not be DIYing a single thing. Maybe my own makeup. Maybe. 😉

I sure as hell was NOT working on any wedding projects. I just did not have it in me.
My husband, however, was adamant about doing our invitations since he’s an artist.

@FoxyBride14: Heck no! I didn’t DIY anything!!! There were only two things I did myself (but don’t consider DIY), water bottles and stickers on the favors. I didn’t make the favors, just put custom stickers on them that I designed….same with the bottled water. I did design my own STD’s, but I’m a photographer/designer so that wasn’t exactly a hard DIY project.
I didn’t want to do any of my own decor, or do anything like that. I just personally don’t have the time or desire to do any that! As a wedding photographer, I knew the importance of delegating and letting those who are skilled at their craft do those things!

I’m not DIYing ANYTHING unless you count sealing the save the date envelopes DIY. We didn’t care for that, to be honest.
Ain’t nobody got time for that. I am busy and relish my down time. Also, I’m getting married out of state and my FI and I live in our TINY TINY NYC apartment, so I don’t even see how it would work logistically.
I shouldn’t lie to myself, if a magical gnome gifted me an enormous craft room tomorrow and unicorns were going to carry it down to NC, I still wouldn’t craft a thing. I’d rather pay someone else to do stuff or do without.
