Oops! I was confused by your poll and voted wrong. I wanted to say yes, I love it.
But I said no meaning "No you aren't too short for it".
I think it might look a bit odd... The boddice is pretty long (idk if they will tailor that to be shorter) and if they just remove a few layers it would look pretty strange..
@KatNYC2011: LOL, no worries! Wow, I've never posted before and just posted this a few minutes ago. I'm surprised to see replies so quickly!
@MsLotus: Thanks for your input! I'm putting down a deposit on a dress this week and I just wanted some more input since my closest friends and family are overseas and can't come shopping with me. :)
@MrsNeutrino: Thanks for your thoughts. I think the bodice is supposed to be like that - At first that bothered me because I felt that contributed to the skirt making me look shorter. Hopefully more bees can give input on that one before I put in my deposit :)
@napabridekelsey: thanks! And I see you're having your wedding in Napa? IT'S GORGEOUS THERE! *Lucky!*
@Equestrienne: you're like my wedding twin! I've got the San Patrick Eresma, I had to choose it by myself as my closest family and friends are oversease AND I'm getting married in Spain - in five weeks!
It looks gorgeous on you, I wouldn't worry about the height issue. I'm 5ft 7 and was worried for the same reason since I'm wearing low heels, but I think it will be okay.
Where abouts in Spain is your wedding?
I don't see your height being a problem at all with your height. 5'4 isn't short at all and you could do heels. I thought you were going to say you are under 5'. It looks great!!
@worldfairy: Congrats on your upcoming wedding! And how exciting to find my twin! I have family just outside of Cadiz and will have the ceremony there. And yourself? Is there another thread for others wearing the San Patrick Eresma? I searched for them but it mostly brought up classifieds. Just curious to know how people are dressing up their dresses. Wearing my grandmother's mantilla veil would keep it traditional, but I think I would look better with a more modern veil -- considering throwing on the mantilla, and switching to a fascinator/birdcage/or sparkly hairpiece for pictures later in the day though.
Viva Espana!
@sweetiejewels: LOL, I never considered myself petite because everyone I know *swears* I look like I'm closer 5'7" without shoes. Reading all these wedding dress advice blogs and tv shows make 5'4" sound like it's super short just because it's listed on the "petite charts." I just caught an episode of "Say Yes to the Dress" and I could've sworn I heard Randy say that brides 5'4" and under should avoid mermaid gowns and I started to question my choice of dress!
I love that dress on you!! I think you can definitely pull that dress off at 5'4"!!
you can never be too short to wear a mermaid... and you look great in this dress!!
@Equestrienne: I grew up there so I'm a little jaded :) but yes it is really pretty!
@Equestrienne: We're over the other side in Alicante... my FI's dad is Spanish and he has a lot of family there. No I don't think there are other threads about Eresma, I searched for ages when I first bought my dress. The veil etc is the thing I'm still thinking about...... I'm thinking I might have an elbow-length one to keep it simple as we're marrying in a really tiny traditional little church. I can't decide on whether to have a tiara or a hair flower though.....Actually a girl messaged me on here last week to say she had the same dress and she's wearing a birdcage veil, which I'd never even thought of but I bet will look fab!
Are you crazy? You look fantastic! I get where you're coming from though. I'm 5'2 and am definitely self conscious. I'm wearing the Maggie Sottero Bernadette and even though I love it, I'm still always afraid that I'm too short for it.
I think the dress looks amazing, and it should look great on you... I'm also 5'4 and I know that being short means some things just won't look as good as they do on models... but two things can help this
1 do you have a long torso? If yes you will have no problem with this style derss
2, because it's a mermaid dress it does longgate you so you don't need to worry if you have a small torso I'm just stubby all around and I still plan on trying on this style and trumpet style dress...
@SutSip: OMG, I LOVE the Bernadette dress! It has such a great vintage feel to it (who doesn't need an excuse to wear REDred(!) lipstick and a fascinator) and I was considering it for our engagement party. I don't think height would be an issue for your dress - the line is gradual as opposed to the harsh and dramatic lines on the dress I posted. Congrats on your wedding and post pics after! Love love love your dress!
@Raine Monkey: Ooh, no, my legs are def much longer than my torso. But glad to find another 5'4" bride. Post pics in the midst of your dress hunt! Would love to see what you decide on! G'luck with the dress search and congrats on your upcoming wedding!
@Equestrienne: no prob. I agree that the boddice plays a role in the shortness factor. I feel like with really high heels and if they are able to shorten the bodice.. then you will look lovely.
I think it looks gorgeous, but I may be biased as this is also my dress! ;) LOVE IT!!!
It's beautiful on you! I think you will look gorgeous in this dress! Did you go shopping at J'aime Bridal? :)
As another shorty (5'0) who's tried on drop waist gowns, agreed about the bodice. It already looks amazing on you, but I bet the alteration will really elongate!
I hope it suits you! Because I just purchased a mermaid gown and I'm 5'4 and about 117lbs myself! My dress is also a Pronovias so under the same company as your dress as well. I have ruffles on the bottom and loved it! I think as long as you love it and can rock it, do it!
I tried on a few other styles but the mermaid really was what looked best on me. I have pretty wide hips so everything else seemed to make me wider than i was. The mermaid really accentuated the curves and made me slimmer.
Don't doubt it! Also, if you order the custom length, the skirt portion will be slightly higher. If you are worried about it looking too short on you, then you can order longer than needed and then bring it up some more from the bottom. I was questioning the same thing and ordered a 59" instead of the 57" so that in the case that I didn't like wehre the proportions fell on me, I was able to move it around and accomodate the start of the mermaid where I wanted.
Also, I'm not sure if San Patrick runs large like Pronovias does now but my dress was a bridal size 2 and I'm a 34.5 - 25 - 36. I've read that in the past few years Pronovias dresses sizing changed and got bigger. You should definitely get measured before you order.
It suits you!
I'm 5'3", but have a considerably fuller figure. I have not yet decided on a dress, though I'm leaning to something less formal and more summery.
The links are bad, so I can't comment sorry. BUT I too am another Eresma bride. I'm 5 flat, wearing 3.5 inch heels, so I am still shorter than you. I love the mermaid style, which I think anyone can pull off if the porportions are right. I wish I had a picture of myself with my shoes on to share. I'm definitely debating wearing a chapel length veil as that might overtake my height. What lenght of veil are you going with?
I'm shorter than you and definitely more than 105, and I am wearing a trumpet style dress. I discovered that this was the most flattering silhouette for me because I'm curvy and stumpy. With that said, I think that mermaid dresses are a really good look on short girls as long as the bottom isn't excessively voluminous (and this on isn't). It sounds like you have a cute (and oh so tiny) body, so I say show it off!
I'm 5'3" and I'm wearing the Eresma as well! I actually thought it was one of the dresses that made me feel taller because of the longer fitting bodice! Then again, I am also wearing 5" heels because my fiance is a foot taller than me so I'm used to wearing higher heels. I can't see your photos, but I obviously think it's fine since I am shorter than you and I think it works!

My wedding will be in Spain and the San Patrick Eresma has a flamenco feel with its ruffled mermaid skirt. I am 162 cm (5'4") and 47.5 kg (105 lbs), 34"-25"-34", and I've read conflicting opinions on whether my body type would be suitable for a mermaid dress. Some say if you're thin and boyish a mermaid gown would be great, but others say if you're my height it would only make you look shorter. I plan on wearing very short heels (63.5 mm/2.5") because my groom isn't much taller, and I'm concerned that this particular cut may be unflattering on me.
In the photos attached I'm standing barefoot on a 3" platform and I'm worried that the skirt still seems a bit much. I'm not sure if a tailor can take away a layer or two of ruffles at the hem. Does the cut of the skirt seem a bit harsh? The dress in the store was a sample size 10 (I'm probably a bridal size 4) so I'm not sure if a dress in my size would fit me better "proportionally."
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Edited to add:
Have any of the "shorter" brides ordered mermaid gowns similar to this one? Just curious to know if trying on an unaltered dress in your "correct size" actually hits you in different places than the sample size that stores carry.
