I’m 5’2 and wearing a huge ball gown. If you want a big fancy dress go for it!

@RDH0513:  I’m 5.4 (had to google that since I work in international system) and realy want a ball gown, tried one and loved myself in it but when I started telling my aunts they tried by all means to talk me out of it saying I’d look short and wide, granted I’m curvy (read chubby) but I don’t think it’s such a big deal. I liked how I look in the dress so I’m sticking to it. I’d just get my seamstress to play with the lace in it to give the ilussion of a smaller waist.

i think when it comes to a ballgown it’s all about the waistline and your body shape! I’m 5’6 so not  short but I’m quite long in the body so anything with a dropped waist made my legs look short! I ended up going with a ballgown with a natural waist and it creates the illusion of perfect proportion !

I’m barely 5’3″ and I wore a sparkly cupcake of a dress, and I LOVED it! I was originally going to cut it into tea length, but I was told that cutting it that short would actually make me look stumpy. Go with what you feel best in, also see if they will let you take pictures when you try them on because it’s just like Cher says in Clueless, pictures don’t lie.

I’m 5’3.75 :), and I recently tried this dress on, my FI loved it and I am heavily considering a big poofy dress like this now, I didn’t think it overwhelmed me at all!!

I’m about the same height as you, and yes, we ARE too short for a ballgown… So what kind of dress did I get?  A ballgown, of course!! =P  I didn’t like any of the other dresses.   who cares what they say about short brides and ballgowns.

@shunduh:  Omg who is the designer of that dress? Gorgeous!

To the OP, I think you would be able to pull it off. My friend is 5’3″ and she is wearing a ball gown and it doesn’t look like it’s swallowing her up at all! They make it in propotion to your measurements so I wouldn’t worry about it.

If you have a short torso and long legs go for a drop waist ball gown.  if your have a long torso and short legs go for a natural waist ball gown.
