I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and was unsure of ordering from over seas/online. It was the best thing I could have done! I recieved my dress about 11 days after ordering. I had some trouble with DHL - the delivering service used - but that isn't Light In The Boxs fault. The dress was packaged very well and also turned inside out whih I thought was an excelent idea. Across the bust and over the shoulders and also the caped sleeves is padded so no need for a bra! The detail of the lace and pearls is amazing and looks just like the picture. The train is beautiful and the edging of it is enforced so it sits perfectly all the time. I am a size 12/10 in UK sizes so orderd the US size 8. It is a little tight across the back but I have 4 weeks before the big day so I will just watch what I eat and not over do it! It also came with extra beads and pearls in a little bag in case any fall off. I have noticed that a few have since fallen off, not a huge amount though, four or five beads. It came with a pink dress bag too which I am very greatful for. The white colour is lovely and I cannot wait to wear this dress for my big day. Thank you so much Light In The Box, I am a bride-to-be-on-a-budget but I feel like a princess...
Amanda- I am gonna go out on a limb here and guess that since you joined 6 minutes before posting this that you might work for lightinthebox?
I too am hesitant to believe this is legit. If so, maye you could post a pic in your dress because there is a record of these type f posts and no one includes a photo.
We're received several positive posts about lightinthebox from members with only one post.
Here is another one:
http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/affordable-bridal-dresses-at-lightintheboxcom#post-89425
This thread and that post I just linked to were both made by new accounts which just happen to share the exact same IP... and only have one post, each supportive of lightinthebox.com.
So it seems like this might not be a legit post...but then why leave it up? Just because you can't prove it for sure? I hope that doesn't sound accusatory...just curious.
I just don't want slimy vendors (if that indeed is what this is) invading our boards and using them as their own free advertising. It would ruin the community I love so much so I feel like a pitbull at the gates! Stay out fake Amanda!
There are so many things in this post that make me feel like it's not legit...the time between the creation of the account and the posting of a positive vendor review, the weird posting title (who puts their own name in the post title?!?), the weird grammar/spelling (when that would be her primary language, being from Scotland) and the glowing, almost overly detailed review with no pictures when we all know brides love pictures. Especially of dresses!!
Let's see the dress, Amanda! We'd love a picture! ;) Or, continue posting and contributing to our community. Show you're an actual bride and not an employee of LITB.
uh i hate this! why can't we get these people off of our boards, mr. bee? are you guys not "allowed" to because you can't definitively prove it?
I think MrBee provided information which might be useful to brides in making their purchasing decisions - that is why I'm inclined to leave it up.
Hey MarriedInMay - Yah, we feel similarly passionate about keeping the boards free from vendor spam... that's why I investigated this thread right away when it was flagged by one of our users. :-)
We can definitely delete this thread along with the other one, but I did want readers to know that these two threads were both started by a new user with the same IP and only one post each!
I thought readers who saw this thread would be more informed than readers who didn't see it... and also, I was hoping that the original poster would see the thread too. :-)
If you guys think we should delete it, please let us know in the comments below... we'll wait 24-48 hours or so, then make a decision on whether to leave it up or delete it!
I'll vote to leave it as it now seems a good source for spam/sales related posts in general and a good deterrent for the LITB poster specifically.
Thanks for being so diligent about guarding our community!
Can you maybe re-name the post or re-categorize it to the help section or something? I think more bees might benefit from it if the thread had some indication of what was discussed inside. Does that make sense? Do you think that would be helpful? Like...it seems like it's about a dress from the main page but it's really about so much more!
I see your point now Mr. Bee. I actually think leaving it categorized as it is is the MOST helpful part of it.
That way, lets say there is a bride thinking about ordering from Light in The Box. She searches for "Light In The Box" on our forums, then this post comes up! If it was categorized as "Vendor/Spam" or something, she might never find it.
I vote for leaving it up, and letting it speak for itself!
No, we can't re-categorize it... it's either delete it or leave it up.
Either way, we are not deleting it for a day or so so that the OP can see these comments.
I definitely agree with texaslawgirl - leave it up! I think it will be very helpful to anyone considering ordering from the site.
yeah, the wording of this post is SO INCREDIBLY SNEAKY! the bit about a few beads falling off, as if to make it sounds more real. wow! and if this isn't a phony post, where is Amanda123 from Edinburgh??? Geeeeeeez. what did LightINtheBox do, hire one of these stealth marketers???? (i think LIghtInThebox is another Chinese-factory firm, yes?)
PS: i just googled "lightinthebox," and the first item to pop up in the search auto-fill doohicky was the phrase "lightinthebox SCAM" and then there was "lightinthebox FRAUD" etc etc. seems pretty clear this place sells counterfeit stuff.
I vote to Leave it up so everyone can see it!
i too say leave it up... it says more about the company and i pity any business that underestimates a forum community because they are pretty savy to vendors like this
Hi WeddingBee members,
I am Wei Jin from LightInTheBox. I am here to explain the confusion over this thread.
One of our new employees forwarded this customer review from our website to the WeddingBee discussion board. His intention was to let community members see more of the positive experiences that customers have had with our company. He didn’t give any context and simply copied and pasted the review. We apologize that we broke the rules of the community and have taken steps to ensure this doesn't happen again.
If it makes a difference, this review is from a real customer from Scotland, posted on our website on September 20th, 2009. She placed the order on Aug 29th and the package shipped on Sep 11th. She ordered her wedding dress, bouquet, and jewelry from us and the words she wrote were her own. Due to company policy I am afraid that I can’t disclose any further information about this customer.
We have never and will never write fake reviews and that also goes for paying people to write fake reviews or experiences about LightInTheBox. We respect the policies that all WeddingBee community members have and hope this clarifies the confusion.
Best regards,
Wei Jin
Well it seems that LightInTheBox is back to their old tricks. They are leaving more bogus positive reviews on our website that are copies and pastes of other online reviews. Thank you members for continuing to flag them! We welcome HONEST reviews from REAL BRIDES but we absolutely will not allow vendor spam and especially the kind where vendors PRETEND to be brides!!
Wait wait wait Bees!!! My stepsister ordered a dress to wear to my sister's wedding last May and had a good experience. Here is the dress image on lightinthebox.com:

And here it is on my stepsister, also in silver:

left to right: Me (in Mori Lee), my sister (in Mori Lee), and my stepsister in lightinthebox!
She loved the dress, and my stepmom (her mother) is considering wearing it to my wedding.
Now I'm planning my own wedding for May 11' and I am trying to decide if I want to use LITB for my bridesmaids, but of course I'm scared! I finally ordered 2 gowns and fabric swatches last week as a trial run. (one for me & one for my sister) Yes, I am nervous. I need a dress to wear to a wedding in Feb, so I figured I would risk the $$$ and hopefully we'll end up with 2 great gowns and then be able to save my girls some money.
I ordered this in Champagne:

here is an image posted on LITB in a review of this dress:

This is what I ordered for my sister, in Grape:

I don't expect them to arrive before Christmas, and I am sure we will need to hem them and do some alterations. I've been scouring the reviews on LITB for a few months now, and it seems like beading and embellishments usually come out looking cheap. Chiffon dresses seemed to have the best reviews, I think because the fabric is more forgiving? The biggest complaints were dresses running small, zippers breaking, and a lengthy ship time.
My fingers are crossed, and I will be back to post the outcome! Even if it's bad and I'm embarassed and I end up wishing I hadn't taken the risk...
Thank you for the photos!
I get why people are so cynical but it looks like the company at least TRIED to explain themselves - they know this site has enough power..
but it makes sense considering HOW it's posted with the name, an a colon before the review title...
the google autofill is not related to search results, it's related to what people SEARCH for not what they FIND. My BF's best friend works for google here and he said a lot of people confuse this.
@Mila_MM: Do you have an update on your dresses? I am considering purchasing a wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses and would like to hear some honest feedback lol!
well, im a real person and i ordered from this site and i returned the dress cos it SUCKED and i had to unpick my way out of it cos the zip died when i tried in on.
@juliacatherine: Thanks for your feedback - hope you found something perfect after that!
Light in the Box scammed me!! I fell in love with a Jessica Lynn flower girl dress that retails for $499. Light in the box sells a very similar dress for $119. I was extremely uncomfortable ordering from this company, but I saw some reviews from people who claim to be very happy with their service and dresses. This gave me hope and I ordered the dress in January 2011, I also paid extra for shipping insurance. My PayPal account was charged, and the company set my order status as processing with the estimated delivery date 2/25/2011. However, my dress was NEVER shipped. NOTICE TO EVERYONE USING PAYPAL: YOU ONLY HAVE 45 DAYS FROM THE DATE YOU MADE PAYMENT TO CREATE A DISPUTE! IF YOU DO NOT FILE A DISPUTE ON THE PAYPAL WEBSITE WITHIN THIS TIME PERIOD PAYPAL WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK! I waited a few days after Light in the box was supposed to ship my dress and I contacted them through their ticket center. (If you are considering a purchase they offer live chat, if you already make a purchase you are supposed to use the ticket system). I have 2 tickets in and neither have ever been answered.) When my tickets weren't answered I tried the Live Chat and was immediately greeted with a very nice customer service representative who told me she has no way of checking to see when my order will ship...but she "thinks" it will be about 1 week. So I waited a few days, and tried again. The next time the customer service rep told me my dress is scheduled to ship MARCH 6, 2011...which was a Sunday, and just so happened to be about 45 days since I placed my order through paypal. I decided to protect myself and immediately filed a dispute against this company, because I never received the merchandise I paid for. To anyone who is not familiar with how a paypal dispute works: you file a dispute and paypal gives you the opportunity to leave a message to the seller through their website...the seller replies to your message, and it is meant to help you RESOLVE the issue between buyer and seller. You can keep this open for up to 20 days...this would give the retailer an extra 20 days to ship your merchandise while still offering you the protection of having the opportunity to escalate the claim. I wanted the dress still so I sent the message describing my issue and Light in the box replied that my "order is delayed, please close the dispute." I replied that I would be very happy to close it, however I cannot do so until I receive my dress. Light in the box, next skips the paypal communication and privately emails me to say: "Close the dispute if you want the dress, we will not process your order until the dispute is closed..let us know if I want a refund." That is where we are right now...I have 20 days through paypal to either escalate this dispute to a claim against Light in the Box, or close the dispute. I really want the dress and I made it clear that I am still interested in resolving this issue, however if I don't receive the dress I have every intention of escalating the claim and asking for a refund before my paypal claim expiration is up. I am hoping if I have to ask for a refund and i do it within paypal's timeframe then paypal will help me get a refund. I feel if this company was legitimately going to send the dress they had plenty of opportunity to send it...I'm giving them almost 1 month after the shipping date they promised. AND, I think it was shady that they are privately pressuring me to close the claim OR they won't process my order. Shouldn't they be trying to process my order so they could make a sale? Instead, they are trying to get me to close the dispute so they could KEEP my money without sending me anything!! Once a dispute is closed it could NEVER be opened again. If I were to close it so they could "Process" my order I would not be able to do anything about it if they keep my money. For all those people like me who see the positive reviews and decide to take the chance and order from Light in the Box, be sure to know how paypal works so you can use them to help you get your money back if the company tries to scam you like they did me.
hi bees i ordered a dress from light in the box and is beatifull is the replica of the sottero dress summer royale ofcourse is not the same but is very close to the original is beatifull i will post pics soon!!!
^^^^^
wow, another strange post by a user who joined 20 minutes before creating it...
ridiculous. I'm glad I never came across this company. ADVERTISE LEGITIMATELY!
Wow, so much to update! Overall we have had great results! YES of course there is more work involved IF you need to fix a mistake when you order from another country from a company that is not international. So be very clear about the risks involved, but from our experiences any downsides have been minimal, and WAY better than ordering generic BM dresses!!!
And so far customer service has been shockingly great. Long story, will write about that ASAP!!!

If you are used to gowns that are luxury priced & real silk (not synthetic) of course you will see the differences. Luxury to me would be upwards of $400 or $500 for a formal, and God knows what for bridal! Maybe $3000 & up?
For a group of 10 bridesmaids (we all grew up together!) with different incomes (some in grad school) I couldn't ask them to buy Amsale or anything over $150. David's Bridal starts @ $99, and LITB starts around $89. Plus they offer celebrity & designer "inspired" gowns which are so fun, and more creative than the lower end bridal shops. Here are a few pics, i'll write more ASAP! Or pm me if u have pressing questions!

@Mila_MM: Do you people really think it's not obvious that you're from "Light in the Box"? And what kind of name is that for a company anyways??!! By posting on here you are making us brides even LESS likely to use your business. You look like fools.
(sorry had to split this info in to two comments)
BTW I didn't want to have the girls in the same gown or color, so I made a googledoc with all options & links. The color palette was champagne, grey, and blush (champagne, silver, & pearl pink are the names @ LITB). I just asked the girls to stay in palette & order chiffon floor length. They're all wearing nude pumps & similar hairstyles/accessories to keep a cohesive look. My sister will be giving birth to twins about 4 weeks before the wedding, so she wanted a dark color to comouflauge anything. She's my matron of honor, so of course I said no problem! And the grape is very deep aubergine in person.
The construction is waaay better than expected. Here is an image of the internal construction, built in bra & boning:

and close up of detail ruffle:

I ordered this as a trial. I am 5'2", so my concern was if the waist would be too long & if the unique bust design would flatter by voluptuousness... It didn't!!! The waist was a few inches too ow, so I had some gappping. But that meant that this was worst case scenario, so I felt confortable asking my besties to order from here. I advised them to order emire waisted if they had a short torso, and avoid embellishments because they seem to have a spotty reputation accordong to LITB rviews.

Anyway. all dresses are not in yet, & most of these are phone pictures sent from across the country so they're not the best images ;-)
Write more soon!
@FutureMrsMcDermott: At least take a minute or two to educate yourself.
1st clue that I'm not from Light in the Box? - I'm not writing in broken English. And by "from" do you mean from China or do you mean a spy/actor they've positioned in the US on the West Coast?
2nd clue? - I've been a relatively active member on weddingbee since my engagement last year.
I do find it humorous that you think an employee from light in the box would come & post unflattering pictures of dress fails. I think the fake polyester gowns from China are a hell of a lot better than the passe frumpy frocks from a certain giant coorporations dominating the market here... I don't want to name names, but it rymes with "Grated's Tidal".
To each his own but I wanted my besties to enjoy picking out fun gowns that they felt beautiful wearing, and I was willing to gamble about $200 to find out if the girls could somewhat rely on the company.
I thought a lot of the bees would appreciare hearing the good & the bad of our experiences, and could hear what mistakes we made so that they can avoid them if they have any interest in taking this route.
@Mila_MM: I won't start an argument here because all I would be doing is fueling the fire...but I will say that I did "educate" myself. 24 posts is not very active in a year. It wouldn't be hard for a company to instruct you to post a few times so you don't look suspicious. Your most detailed responses/posts have been about this company. Furthermore, you do write strangely, "The waist was a few inches too ow, so I had some gappping". I know a lot of bees type fast so some of our posts can be misspelled, but yours are pretty extreme in that case. So many brides have been scammed or given inadequate service from this company. For you to promote them, as if your experience proves that they are reputable, is not helpful to other brides. How awful would you feel if someone weighed your "experience" very heavily and went with this company, only to be unsatisfied with the service? I consider myself to be an active contributor on the bee, someone who cares about a lot of the bees on this site, and as someone who would not want a bride to be scammed. You just seem to have ulterior motives, just sayin'. End of conversation.
For the record: we have the LITB IPs on file, and Mila MM is not one of them. In the future, please simply flag suspicious posts. Not everyone who gives a good review is a shill. :-)
@Mila_MM: Thanks for your review! I'm looking for ways to keep the costs down for my BMs and this is a great idea.
Hi! Just want to add that I've had good experiences with them. I got this ball gown last summer: http://www.lightinthebox.com/A-line-Strapless-Floor-length-Satin-Tulle-Prom--Evening--Homecoming-Dress--HSX351-_p25003.html
I sent my measurements to have it custom made and it fit really well (although might be helped by the fact that this was a corset back) and the only small issue was that it was a tad too big around the bust (but nothing that could not be helped by a bit of padding).
Here's a picture of me in it:
I ordered my dress from light in the box and it was beautiful. I did have to get it altered becuase it was just alittle too big and too long.
this is the dress that i ordered
And this is me after it was altered

Kayla
@MightySapphire: Thank you for clarifying that I am not from LITB. I felt so frustrated after taking the time to update the review & then to be called a liar!
@FutureMrsMcDermott: I am glad that this community is protective of eachother & looks out for scammers, so thanks for watching out for all the bees.
On the other hand, I think there are a lot of manufacturers who produce decent quality designer inspired products. It would be wonderful if we could help each other find the good ones & steer cleer of the others.
@juliacatherine: 1st, I think the fact that you were able to return your gown is great news! Can you tell us about the process or if it was difficult? 2nd, broken zippers seem to be responsible for a lot of bad reviews on LITB. I will probably have to replace the zip on my champagne dress in the future, but replacing a zipper is not difficult or expensive, so the overall value is still there to me.
My stepmother just received a dress she ordered in February & it was the worst we've seen so far! She knew she was taking a gamble on it since the fabric was hard to see in their image & we thought it might be sequins. It was not. I have no idea what the fabric was, except that it was itchy & resembled fabric that would be used for a Halloween costume! She just boxed it back up & is planning to return it ASAP.
Almost all of our the dresses are 2 feet too long. Only two friends ordered custom sizes, & I don't expect them to arrive for at least 2 weeks from now.
@Bekawild: Thank you for clarifying how autofill works on google, this is very valuable information!
@Shannamaria: What terrible timing! It sounds like you ordered right before Chinese New Year! 3 of my friends ordered their dresses in the same day. 2 ordered in the am, and the other ordered pm. In the middle of the day LITB put up a notice that anything ordered after that time would take an additional 15 or so days! Sure enough, the friend who ordered late received her dress weeks after the others. I'm sorry to hear that the language barrier is proving to be a set-back. Thanks for the info on Paypal, I always feel safe when I use it so I'm glad to know I should pay more attention to deadlins, etc.
Ladies, I think knowing what is reasonable to expect is very important. We're not dealing with a high-end exclusive designer or company here, so we can't expect to find a breath-taking 100% silk gown that looks like it could have been on the red carpet. I feel like too many ladies expect Marchesa or Amsale gowns to arrive when we should probably be expecting something more like Zara, which IMO is still AMAZING!
The cost + shipping + possible alterations/hems (if you don't do custom size) is STILL less than the gowns I originally wanted for my BMs, which were between $300-$500. Plus they could choose their own styles & colors*. And they still look cohesive.
*I created an online document to share information betweeen all of the girls with links to the style choices as well as examples of the color choices. We ended up with a palette of blush pink, champagne, and grey. I also put up their size chart, a link to their measuring video, and order information. They have all enjoyed this experience so much so far!!!
@froydis: & @kayla1505: You both look beautiful in your gowns! They really do look custom made just for you :-)
