Maybe posting a photo pf your dress would help. Mine was a half french half american bustle.. my dress is organza with lace appliques so the lace party needed to be detached from teh underskirt..the underskirt was pinned up all around hte bottom and then the organza layer it was pinned french style near the bottom all around and then the middle of the train was pulled up and pinned american style. The was done so that the lace edging was visible.

I had this same problem at my fitting last week! My dress is a princess dress, all tulle from the waste down. When she did the bustles I didn’t like how it looked-very awkward and I felt like it ruined the back of the dress. She is basically folding under the train of the dress and then it will be tied up with ribbons/buttons-she said someone has to come with me to pick it up to learn the system!! Hope this idea healps!

I don’t have a photo yet, but the way my seamstress is putting in my bustle for my all-tulle dress, the buttons will be nestled in the waistband of my dress.  When she pinned it to mimic what the bustle will look like, it basically made the skirt of my dress look as though it had always been one length all the way around, if that makes sense.
