I am as patriotic as the next girl but I have a question regarding the rules of flags in the front of a church. I sit in church every Sunday looking at the exact spot where we will be married in a few weeks! Our sanctuary is lovely with beautiful stained glass that is meaningful and modern. The woodwork and chandeliers are all in harmony and the green and pale pink color scheme of the church are peaceful but OH WAIT………. there in the midst of it all, right up front, are two large flags on poles – one an American flag and one a Christian flag.
Do they need to be there for our ceremony? I don’t want to offend anyone and I have relatives who are veterans but I also don’t want them as a backdrop to all my church pictures. Any ideas from the bees……..?

If you worried about them being distracitng in the pictures you would always see if your photog could photoshop them out of certain photos you want when all is said and done. I know if I asked my church to take the flags down they would think it was an odd request and most likely wouldn’t do it.

I don’t go to church, so I’m really not sure about this one… but if you feel as though it would be appropriate to ask whomever is in charge, go for it!

Hmm…I’m not really sure about that. I don’t think my church has a flag pole. Surely we do. I would feel about the church coordinator and ask if they put them up every day. Are you having a night wedding? Flags are usually down by sunset, so maybe you could ask if they could come down a bit earlier? Or maybe they don’t put them up on Saturdays?

See, you don’t notice the flags, you notice the hot couple in the middle. 😉

Wish I could offer advice on this one but maybe consider that the flag in your pictures will represent your ability to marry who you want, where you want, when you want 🙂 Congrats anywho!

I also agree with what Miss Bravo said because that flag in your photo represents how you live in a country where you actually have choices about your marriage!

Thanks for the feedback, bees! It’s been so helpful…….
@Miss Bravo – that’s a much better way to look at it! Thanks for bringing me back t reality about who I am, which includes being American and Christian, and not a color scheme!
