Idk, the men I know adore American women of all kinds – I have heard friends mention that they love accents or some aspect of a specific foreign woman, but never at the expense of their American love interests. It is difficult for me to think of women I know who are not at least 2 of those 3 attributes.

I’d ask less about what women are doing “wrong” (for lack of a better word) here and more about what ideas the men you’re hanging around have that make them feel that way…

That would be like saying all French women are great lovers or that all Italian women are amazing cooks. I’m sure some of them would like toot their own horn but ALL, really?

Stereotypes are silly. Rarely does one description apply to an entire group.

On separate occasions, I’ve had my European friends tell me that American women seem to smile more. I asked if that was a bad thing, but they said it was neither here nor there. It was just something they noticed.

What is an “American” woman anyway?

I suspect at least some of these men are bemoaning the fact that american women aren’t fitting into the traditional feminine stereotype (think 50s housewife – submissive, dinner on the table when their man gets home, only function is to be pretty and look after the house and kids). instead they have the gall to have careers and opinions and other masculine things like that.

@MlleFabuleux:  I know in Russia, people think you’re weird if you smile a lot. It’s kinda like you need a reason to smile, otherwise something’s wrong with you.

@HonoraryNerd:  Hahaha, I don’t smile when I’m visiting other countries. I think it makes you look more tourist-y and more of a target to ne’er-do-wells.

It’s just odd because I don’t really smile when I am out in public at home, either. But I smile/laugh with friends and family. I have noticed that my foreign friends tend not to smile/laugh as much, though (esp. my extended family).

@newname_99:  +1 It’s just stupid rhetoric spouted off by stupid men who can’t even be bothered to remove their stupid heads from their stupid sphincters.

The men saying that are the ones still living in the Victorian age in their heads, where women cook, clean, stay at home, and bow down to men. Sorry to break it to them, but I’ve lived abroad, and foreign women are not all mousy husband-worshippers either.

Most of them work (gasp!), don’t cook all their meals (the horror!), and actually have opinions (believe it or not!).
