See my previous thread if you want the backstory to this.
I’ve spent the entire week couch surfing between two friends’ houses and only went back to our house briefly on Tuesday to get my cell charger and the mail. SO and I have been debating all week what we should do. He doesn’t love these bugs either but he doesn’t want to move, we’d be breaking our lease by not giving 60-day notice, it would be expensive, and everything halfway decent is already taken (thank you to those of you who helped me look for apartments in the last thread btw but we’re being kind of picky with where and what kind of building we live in next).
So essentially now what we have to do is control the problem as best we can. J is getting diatomaceous earth (thanks everyone who suggested that! I wouldn’t have known about it otherwise) and putting it down tonight. I’m going to spend the next week at a friend’s house again, and next Friday when J actually moves in he’ll go back in and vacuum up the mess/dead bugs, and our landlord will come help caulk all the holes and around the baseboards and such. We’re also going to get mesh drain covers for every drain in the house, and a dehumidifier.
I really, really hope this all works. I’m sure we’ll still see one or two occasionally, because everyone sees some bugs at some point, but it will be way better than a bug or more a day, and ones the size of my cell phone.
If we spend a week or so there after all these changes and still are having problems, we’ll be moving, regardless of broken leases or hassle or money. It’s just not a good situation to live in if it continues like this.
Thanks for all the advice and commiseration in the previous thread guys, it helps to know that I’m not totally alone in my ridiculous fear of these things 🙂
