There is a huge baby show the weekend of November 8 I’m going to, and it’d be awesome if I knew the sex. Problem is I’d only be 18+4. I know they are suggested to do at 20 weeks. I’ll ask my midwife at my next appointment, but wondering what you bees would do and advice from bees who got theirs early, was it accurate or hard to tell?

I’m pretty sure my anatomy scan was at 18 weeks, and she had no problem knowing what the sex was. I say go for it 🙂

@awakemysoul: I was 18+5 at our anatomy scan, and you could DEFINITELY tell it was a girl!

I could 100% tell at 15+6 that B was a boy.

I wouldn’t wait, 18 weeks is good enough. I’ve heard of doctors recommending anatomy screens between 18-20 weeks.
Can’t wait to hear what you’re having! 🙂

Im tossing up this same situtation. Iv booked my anatomy scan for 29th Oct. il be 19w4d, I really want to bring it forward to 18w4d but im not sure if I should. My midiwfe did say do it at 20weeks but on the ultrasound place website it says 18-20w.

I got mine done at 15+5 and you could definitely tell he was a boy!

You will be able to see the sex of the baby, assuming the baby cooperates of course. However, the reason the anatomy scan is reccomended at 20 weeks has nothing to do with sex, but all to do with the development of the baby, so they can see his/her organs, brain, etc. I think you will be just fine though 🙂

@Schatzie821: +1. For the purpose of an anatomy scan, I’d want it closer to 20 weeks . You will be able to find out the sex if baby cooperates, but for all the measurements etc I’d personally book closer to 20w. Could you go an elective u/s elsewhere in the meantime, like a 3d/4d place that you can pay just for gender determination? We have a place here called U C Baby that does the gender scans anytim after 15 weeks I think. Food for thought 🙂 your midwife will be able to give you a better answer asto what she think though, definitely ask 🙂 good luck!!

My doc recommended/ordered anatomy scan between 18-20. I am actually doing mine at 18w4d, so can’t say I’d wait!

@Schatzie821: Oh, I know the purpose of the anatomy scan is to make sure everything is developing properly, from my research it says it’s conducted between weeks 18-22, and that people usually wait until week 20 for accuracy, primarily of the gender determination.
@StaceyA: 3 d ultrasounds creep me out. No offense to anyone who is getting one. I’ll talk to my midwife, maybe I can get an elective scan where they only use the 3 d quickly to verify sex. No pictures of my plastercine looking baby for me lol.

@awakemysoul: I wouldn’t worry about needing a 3D scan for the gender. I booked one at 19+5 for gender and they had to switch it to regular 2D to get a view of the goods. They said it’s much easier to see on 2D than it is 3D 🙂

I believe my anatomy scan was at 18 weeks and the tech had no trouble determining the gender.

I waited until I was a full 20 weeks– I wanted to be certain that the tech could get all the info she needed. But, I do know plenty of moms who go in earlier.
