I posted a few weeks ago about being worried about my flights with American Airlines. Well they have done it and cancelled our flights a little over a month out. Not even cancelled, they are not flying into St Lucia at all that day!
I booked through a travel agent and have trip insurance so hopefully this will get straightened out but its just a huge pain in the rear! (not to mention I am now dealnig with this on top of my purse being stolen over the weekend! Not a good few days for me!)
Now I just have to sit around and wait to see if we can get to our honeymoon, that we paid way too much money for, on time!

You have insurance so your travel agent will be responsible for re-booking the flights for you. That is their job – so *try* not to worry about it too much 🙂 Your honeymoon will be fantastic!

@raspberry bride: Thanks, its funny im not worrying too much but my FI is freaking out! lol he is going to every airline looking at prices of new flights and all that other stuff. I am calming him down. Its the only thing we have both been really looking forward to (besides the whole getting married to each other part lol)! I think he is stressing me out more than anything! I just wish the travel agent would call me back so I can give him some news and shut him up!

Aww, how rubbish. As much as it’s a giant PITA, try and stay pretty chilled about it. With the insurance and having booked through an agent, you should be able to rearrange fairly easily.

Take a few minutes now to read the insurance policy you purchased and to know inside and out what it does and doesn’t cover. Some of those policies are so heavily restrictive that you can only make a claim in very specific circumstances.

This happened to us twice, the last time about 6 weeks before the wedding. We didn’t use a travel agent. When the airline called to tell us they no longer fly to Costa Rica on that day, I said we couldn’t change our dates and they booked us on United instead.

Uhhg that sucks… Lucky you have the insurance, hopefully it will get taken care of quickly without stressing you out too much.
for everyone else – avoid American right now!! They’re having labor union issues -so their pilots are staging “sick-outs”, which is causing a lot of cancelled flights. Sometimes even if the pilot for YOUR particular flight has shown up, the flight will still be cancelled because the plane didn’t get to where it needed to be.

Ugh. I’m so sorry that happened. It sounds like your insurance should take care of you, though. Hopefully.
My mom booked me and DH American flights to go visit her and my dad for Christmas. I’m really worried about everything getting cancelled. I hated American Airlines with a passion because of some previous terrible experiences with them, and now we’re flying with them during peak season during problems with the union… It’s going to be awful.

I hope they straighten this out soon and no one gets too screwed over by them or no one gets injured! They are having problems with their maitenance crews as well! My travel agent told me I have nothing to worry about so Im going to stick wtih that for a little bit!

I call BS on American Airlines! So many of the flights in and out of St. Lucia get cancelled! Trust me, I experienced it (well with Delta). There are only like 2 flights into St. Lucia from the US daily, one through Miami (AA) and one through Atlanta (Delta). They both leave around 10:00am, so getting from your destination city to Atlanta/Miami is hard, and only happens if there are no delays. If your travel dates aren’t flexible, then get on the phone and have AA book you on the Delta flight, otherwise you’ll have to wait a day or two. The flights book up really fast. Its terrible.
The good thing about this is at least you have some time to make alternate arrangements. Delta cancelled our morning flight to Atlanta a couple of hours before takeoff, and there were no flights that would get us to Atlanta in time to catch our connecting flight to St. Lucia. After I threw a fit and cried, they were able to get us on a flight to Atlanta from an airport an hour away; so we had to drive across town at 4am to catch our 6:00am flight. Not a good way to start the honeymoon.
Also, I would keep an eye on your returning flights as well. I heard one couple talking about how their middle of the week flight was cancelled. They had to come back early and spend the rest of their honeymoon in Miami or Atlanta, I can’t remember which.
Ugh hun. Good luck. I don’t wish this on anyone 🙁

Oh god, this is my fear. We have an AA flight to one of the islands in a few weeks and although we have trip insurance, I am terrified because there just aren’t many flights.
Where can I check to see if it’s been canceled?
And to the OP-good luck! I hope everything works out with your trip.

@coffeegal85: They are looking into Jet Blue too, I guess they have a few flights in to St Lucia now.
@Bostongrl25: I looked online and noticed my filght was gone, then I called and said the flight has been cancelled and thats when I called my travel agent! Its in her hands now!

AA is the WORST! Good luck, I hope you can make it to your honeymoon!

Boo AA!! At least they were decent enough to give you a months notice, better than it happening a week before. I know you are working with a TA but do your homework and find other flight options on your own just as a backup. Best of luck keep us updated!

Oh no! But with trip insurance, you should be fine. (And Hi! I’m right over the bridge from you! We live in Waterford.)
